A24 Sets Awards Season Release Dates For Luca Guadagnino’s ‘Queer’ & Brady Corbet’s ‘The Brutalist’
EXCLUSIVE: A24 has set Q4 theatrical releases for its Venice Film Festival acquisitions, Queer from Luca Guadagnino, and The Brutalist from Brady Corbet.
Queer, which holds a 78% fresh grade with critics on Rotten Tomatoes, will go limited on Nov. 27. The pic, which is adapted from William S. Burroughs’ novel of the same name by Guadagnino’s Challengers collaborator Justin Kuritzkes, follows William Lee (Daniel Craig) an American ex-pat in his late forties, as he leads a solitary life amidst a small American community. However, the arrival in town of Eugene Allerton, a young student, stirs William into finally establishing a meaningful connection with someone. Drew Starkey, Academy Award nominee Lesley Manville, Jason Schwartzman, Andra Ursuta, Michael Borremans and David Lowery also star. Queer had its North American Premiere as a Special Presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival and will play the New York Film Festival in a Spotlight Gala. Other notable limited releases over Thanksgiving include NEON’s Germany Oscar submission, The Seed of the Sacred Fig.

Releasing into Christmas on Dec. 20 limited is The Brutalist which follows the journey of Hungarian-born Jewish architect, László Tóth (Oscar winner Adrien Brody), who emigrates to the United States of America in 1947. Initially forced to toil in poverty, he soon wins a contract that will change the course of the next 30 years of his life. The pic, which Corbet wrote with Mona Fastvold, is 98% certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Pic also stars Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, Joe Alwyn, Raffey Cassidy, Stacy Martin, Emma Laird, Isaach De Bankolé, and Alessandro Nivola.
The Brutalist received a 13-minute standing ovation at Venice where Corbet won the Silver Lion for Best Director. The three-hour-plus feature, which includes an intermission, was shot in VistaVision and presented at the Venice and Toronto Film Festival in 70 mm. It is also part of the official selection for the New York Film Festival.
Also going limited over Dec. 20 is Sony Pictures Classic’s Pedro Almodovar movie, The Room Next Door, as well as Paramount’s Better Man on Dec. 25. A24 also has the Nicole Kidman and Antonio Banderas movie Babygirl going wide on Christmas Day.
