1. Keep Kim Crawford Rosè in the fridge
We all know the stress of feeling work pressure in the office. At the day’s end you just want to make a beeline for your living room to crack the cap of your favourite wine and unwind. But there’s nothing worse than when there is nothing in the fridge but half a jar of old pickles and some leftover tomato paste. This is why it’s a good idea to have a few bottles of wine on standby either in the cupboard or fridge. Coming home to a glass of Kim Crawford Rosè will bring some elegance to you Tuesday night, and is always a treat when you have an unexpected guest popover.

2. Propagate succulents
Every sun-drenched room needs a pop of colour and succulents are an easy way to embellish your space. You can propagate your existing succulents or get a trade deal going with other green thumbs in the office. Here’s how…

First, snip the top off a succulent plant or snap a leaf from a living succulent, this is your cutting.

Place your leaves on a plate or in a tray of soil, in a light-filled space with the cut ends facing up.

Spray with water once or twice a day until the soil is damp. In a week or so the tips will sprout fur-like roots. Put larger clippings with a stem in a jar of water and the same thing will happen.

Water the clippings for another week and you’ll notice little pups growing at the end of the leaves. This is when you can plant your clipping in its own pot. Simply place the succulent in the planter and gently nestle the tiny roots in the soil. Keep watering and place in a spot with plenty of sun and the succulent will thrive.

3. Put candles in your defunct fireplace
Most fireplaces in Aussie homes are obsolete these days but placing candles into the furnace cavity will create an elegant ambiance and transport the room to another era.

4. Use a hollowed-out book to cover the wifi box
Unsightly Internet routers are easily fixed by placing an empty book around the box. Find a vintage hardback for a rustic vibe.

5. Mirror Mirror
The quickest way to open up a room is an oversized mirror. Mirrors on walls or cupboard doors will visually expand and instantly refresh your interior.

6. Throwing shade
Painting? Keep in mind that dark colours on the roof add depth to a room. Half painted walls give the illusion of nice high ceilings.

7. Spruce up your entry
Find a second-hand side table at your local vintage store for the entry to your home – hang art above it for a more formal effect.

8. Skinsational accessories
If there’s a room in your home feeling particularly formal, use sheepskin throws to bring warmth and texture to your seating.

9. Use an old wine bottle as a vase
Not only good for the environment but good for your design situation too. Reuse your wine bottles as vases for flowers, pair with a wine bottle candle holder for a dramatic table centerpiece.
