Is 9-1-1: Lone Star’s Judd Lying About His Sobriety? (Exclusive Sneak Peek)

9-1-1: Lone Star is heading into some dangerous territory in its final three episodes — and we’re not just talking about that asteroid that’s headed straight for Austin.

Following Owen’s discovery that Judd has been in an alcohol-fueled spiral since Grace’s unexpected departure, the show returns on Monday, Jan. 20 (Fox, 8/7c) with both characters attending an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. But as you’ll see in TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek, Judd isn’t being entirely truthful about his sobriety.

“Alcoholism never comes out of nowhere, and it never just comes one day and goes away the next,” Jim Parrack tells TVLine. “I don’t mind saying that I’m a sober alcoholic. I got sober when I was 22 years old, and my sponsor has a little saying: ‘seven miles in, seven miles out,’ which means it took a long time to get to the point where you put your hand up and said, ‘I need some help here,’ and it might take a while to get out.”

Parrack is fully aware that this is a pretty heavy storyline to squeeze into the show’s remaining airtime, which is why he says he worked closely with showrunner Rashad Raisani and director Bradley Buecker to “layer in some hints that Judd had all of this going on before we got to this episode. For it being a network TV show where things are pretty limited in terms of the nitty gritty that you can show, I think we did a really good job of handling this,” he concludes.
