Um — did any 9-1-1 fans catch the show's surprise connection to one of the most popular movies from the 2000s?
The 9-1-1 season 8 midseason premiere is on March 6, 2025, and fans are ready to see the 118 back on their TV screens. But ahead of new episodes airing on ABC, the show's social team decided to drop a surprise bombshell about one of the guest stars who recurred in the first episodes of 9-1-1 season 8. On the show, real-life actor Callum Blue plays Brad Torrance, an actor who stars on the fictional series Hotshots. But thanks to an Instagram post shared on January 23, folks learned he previously played a significant role in the 2004 film The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. Back in 2004, Callum portrayed Princess Mia (Anne Hathaway)'s fiancé Andrew Jacoby.
"This felt important to share. 😌," read the caption.
Given how folks didn't necessarily connect the dots when watching 9-1-1, seeing this detail about Callum's career had them reacting in the comments.
"Say whAAAAATTTT!!!??!! How did I miss this!! The teenage girl in me is furious," one person screamed. "🤯 Okay now I want more of him lol," another wrote. "No wonder he looked familiar hahaha," a different follower added.
Well, this is a 9-1-1 surprise we certainly didn't see coming! And if that wasn't enough, this isn't the only role Callum has been in that fans might have seen him in over the years.
According to Callum's IMDB page, he has guest starred on TV shows like Royal Pains, Grey's Anatomy and Smallville. And before his stint on 9-1-1, viewers would've seen him in what became the series finale of The Rookie: Feds back in 2023.
As far as whether Callum will return to 9-1-1 later this season, it's hard to say. But Callum did express his gratitude for working on the show, posting a heartfelt message on Instagram in November 2024.
"Thank you so much for letting me ride along in the fire truck with you on this incredible journey," he wrote at the time. "It has been a privilege to play Brad Torrance. I relate to him in so many ways, but especially that wounded part that is forever searching for something authentic, something that he feels is just out of reach and no matter how much fame, money or how many wives he accumulates on the outside world, that inner yearning to be rescued linger... "
"I am left feeling entirely satisfied and full of appreciation with my experience on @911onabc," he added. "Thank you deeply to the high vibrational and beautiful cast, crew, creators, producers, directors and network, you have allowed me to fall in love with acting again and I'm forever grateful. 🙏🏼."
