Halsey Elaborated On Her Health Updates After Releasing A Heartbreaking New Song
Halsey has revealed that she was diagnosed with Lupus and a T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder in 2022.
The news comes a day after the singer opened up about health updates in their new song, "The End," though she didn't detail the conditions on the track. "The End" is the first song of a new album, their fifth, that is set to be released at a later date.
She opens the song singing: "Every couple of years now / a doctor says I'm sick / Pulls out a new bag of tricks / and then they lay it on me / And at first, it was my brain / then a skeleton in pain / And I don't like to complain, / but I'm saying sorry."
On the outro, she sings, "When I met you, I said I would never die / But the joke was always mine / 'cause I'm racing against time / And I know it's not the end of the world / but could you pick me up at 8? / 'Cause my treatment starts today."
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Halsey thanked their fans for supporting their new song before revealing the specifics of their diagnosis.
"I realize everyone is catching up with news I've held in for a very long time, and I wasn't sure how much I wanted to share. You've all been so kind so I want to share a bit more," they continued, before noting her lupus SLE and "rare" T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder diagnoses.
The singer then noted that both conditions "are currently being managed or in remission," and she "will likely have [them] for the duration of [her] life."
"After a rocky start, I slowly got everything under control with the help of amazing doctors," she continued. "After 2 years, I'm feeling better and I'm more grateful than ever to have music to turn to."
"I can't wait to get back where I belong: With you all 🤍 Singing and screaming my heart out," they concluded.
According to Vanity Fair, Halsey previously opened up about her health in 2022, saying at the time in an Instagram story: "Basically, after seeing a like 100,000 doctors, I got diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Sjogren's syndrome, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), [and] Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS)."
According to the Mayo Clinic, Lupus is "a disease that occurs when your body's immune system attacks your own tissues and organs (autoimmune disease)." The National Library of Medicine defines lymphoproliferative disorders as "a heterogeneous group of diseases characterized by uncontrolled production of lymphocytes that cause monoclonal lymphocytosis, lymphadenopathy and bone marrow infiltration."
