Fall is undeniably the greatest time of the year. It's when the weather starts to cool down, Ugg boots make their annual return, and it's the start of football and back-to-school season. Plus, there's Halloween and Thanksgiving. Need I say more?
Because fall is the best season, it makes sense that the movies set during this time are just as wonderful. We've rounded up the 19 best movies to get you into the cozy autumn spirit. Here they are, in no particular order:
You may recall watching this Halloween classic as a child, but it's just as great of a watch as an adult. You can even watch Hocus Pocus 2 after if you can't get enough of the first movie.
2.Little Women (2019)
This movie stars Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, Timothee Chalamet, AND Emma Watson. With that stacked of a cast, it's a must-watch.
3.October Sky
A young Jake Gyllenhaal plays Homer Hickam, who becomes obsessed with rocket science after seeing Sputnik 1 in the sky. It's a bit of a feel-good movie and takes place during the fall, like the movie's name implies. Bonus points because "October Sky" is an anagram for "Rocket Boys."
4.Donnie Darko
In honor of Spooky Season, I present to you the most mind-blowing psychological thriller of the early 2000s.
5.Fantastic Mr. Fox
If stop-motion movies freak you out, this probably isn't for you. But, the color scheme in this movie is as autumnal as it gets with tons of oranges, yellows, and browns.
6.Good Will Hunting
It's consistently rated one of the greatest movies of all time, and for good reason. It's about a janitor who gets discovered for his genius math-solving skills by a professor at MIT. I'm not doing the movie any justice with that description, but it's definitely a must-see for fall.
7.Knives Out
This murder-mystery manages to be funny yet suspenseful, making it an awesome choice if you aren't looking to watch anything too scary.
8.The Devil Wears Prada
Watch this one for all of the amazing fall outfits set against the backdrop of New York City and a brilliant performance from Meryl Streep.
9.Friday Night Lights
The perfect movie to get ready for football season.
10.The Harry Potter Series
He's the most famous wizard of all time. That has to count for something.
11.You've Got Mail
Call me basic, but I think this is the best Nora Ephron film ever.
12.Mystic Pizza
A classic feel-good, coming of age movie. It's set in small-town Mystic, Connecticut, so you can expect to see orange leaves and beautiful fall foliage.

You said you wanted a dark-humored thriller set in high school? Here it is.

It's a great, if not the best, rom-com for a cozy night in.
15.The Casper Series
You're not truly ready for Halloween until you watch a movie with the friendly ghost. The five movies in the Casper franchise are all kid-friendly and great for family movie nights.
16.Sleepy Hollow
It's directed by Tim Burton, so you know it's going to be spooky. The movie is actually based on Washington Irving's short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," which is as Halloween-y as it gets.
17.Autumn In New York
It's a bit more serious in tone than the other movies on this list, but it's called Autumn in New York, so.
