Tom Holland Stood In Front Of Zendaya To Block Cameras During A Wardrobe Malfunction, And 16 Other Times Celebs Saved Someone Else From A Fashion Mishap

Many red carpet outfits are as delicate as they are gorgeous, sometimes leading to broken zippers, busted seams, and other wardrobe malfunctions. Luckily, many celebs are surrounded by caring people who help them out when disaster strikes.

Here are 16 times celebs' partners, friends, and costars saved them from red carpet wardrobe malfunctions:

1.During a pre-premiere photo call in London in 2023, the top button of Emily Blunt's suit jacket popped open.

However, her Oppenheimer costar, Florence Pugh, reacted quickly, using her hand to cover Emily.

Then, Florence turned Emily away from the photographers while she helped her fix her jacket.

2.At the 2025 Tokyo premiere of Wicked, Ariana Grande struggled to walk up a short flight of steps onto the stage in her voluminous gown. Noticing her panic, her costar, Cynthia Erivo, and director, Jon M. Chu, rushed forward to help her.

3.At the 2021 Spider-Man: No Way Home premiere, Zendaya needed to adjust the strap of her spiderweb dress, so her boyfriend/costar Tom Holland stepped in front of her to shield her from the cameras while she fixed it.

4.During a Borderlands fan event in 2024, Cate Blanchett had a wardrobe malfunction, but her costar, Jamie Lee Curtis, stood behind her to shield her. Jamie told Entertainment Tonight, "Nothing is going on! You know what is going on? I got her back."

The two stayed closed while posing on the red carpet.

5.At a 2025 photocall to promote The Electric State, Millie Bobby Brown wore a denim miniskirt.

During the press conference, she sat with her legs crossed because of the skirt's short length. A viral clip showed that, when it was time to stand back up, her costar Chris Pratt stood in front of her to shield her in case of a potential wardrobe malfunction.

6.While Elisabetta Canalis was getting ready for the 2010 Oscars, the zipper on her dress broke. Her hairstylist, Jonathan Antin, told Today, "I'm doing Elisabetta's hair, and the back of her dress, her zipper, broke open. The assistant jumped in with a needle and thread and started sewing the back of her dress." Then, George Clooney, Elisabetta's boyfriend at the time, stepped in, telling the assistant, "Hold on a second. I have experience with this. I used to work on suits, honey." Jonathan continued, "So he grabbed the needle and thread and started sewing her zipper in. I got to tell you something, he did an amazing job at cross-stitching."

7.George is the kind of partner who's always looking out for you! At the 2022 Kennedy Center Honors, he stopped posing for pictures to untangle the back of his wife Amal Clooney's gown.

Towards the end of the panel, Kate's top broke again, so Justin jumped up to help her fix it.

11.In 2024, American Ferrera told Entertainment Tonight, "Can I tell you that Hannah [Waddingham] helped me out of and back into my dress at the Golden Globes?" Hannah added, "I did say to you, as the cubicle door was open, I was like, 'Do you want me to stay here and do you back up?'" America said, "She was like, 'I'll wait. I'll wait for you and zip you back up.'"

12.Mandy Moore told People that, at the 2021 Emmys, "I was in this red dress with really thin spaghetti straps. Sweet Sophia Bush walked by to go backstage, and I jumped up to hug her, and a strap just popped. The next commercial break, I ran back there, and Sophia had told them, so they had red thread ready to go. Thank God for her!"

She said, "I had bought the bodysuit in the Sock Shop at the airport, and when I got in the car to drive to the premiere with Denzel and Pauletta Washington, all the poppers in the crotch popped themselves open, and it flipped up like a roller blind. I didn't feel it was appropriate to go delving around in my undercarriage with all of us in the back of the car, so I just quietly panicked."

She continued, "I walked out onto the biggest red carpet of my life and whispered to Keanu and Robert Sean Leonard what had happened. In this picture, I am holding the front gusset down, and the two of them are holding the back gusset. Absolute legends who may not even have fully understood the physics of what was happening or even heard the word 'gusset' before, but both jumped in to save me, no questions asked."
