15 new movies you'll want to stream this year, from 'Happy Gilmore' to 'Bridget Jones'
It's mid-January, and everybody's back to work and school, but aren't you missing just hanging out at home, streaming movies during your holiday break? Well, that doesn't have to stop because there are plenty of new films coming your way to watch from your couch instead of schlepping to the theater.
Sure, good stuff is coming to the cinema as well, but where are you going to see Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz's latest flick "Back in Action"? Yep, Netflix. Not to mention the new Jennifer Lopez sports drama "Unstoppable" on Amazon's Prime Video. That's only the start of what you can stream in 2025, which is bringing us a new "Bridget Jones," a "Happy Gilmore" sequel, another "Knives Out" mystery and much more.

'You're Cordially Invited' (Jan. 30)
In the ensemble comedy, Will Ferrell plays the father of a bride and Reese Witherspoon is the sister of another bride. They find out that their chosen venue has double-booked their weddings, leading to a bunch of chaos as the two butt heads while trying to pull off their loved ones' special day.

'Kinda Pregnant' (Feb. 5)
When Lainy (Amy Schumer) becomes envious of her best friend's pregnancy and growing family, she decides to wear a fake baby bump and announce that she, too, is with child. Soon, however, she finds there are consequences to telling this big a lie, including figuring out what to do when she meets Mr. Right (Will Forte).

'Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy' (Feb. 13)
Renee Zellweger's notorious singleton (and now widow) Bridget returns in a new rom-com. Four years after the death of her husband (Colin Firth), she gets help raising the kiddos from her ex (Hugh Grant) and finds fresh romantic possibilities in a dreamy younger man (Leo Woodall) and her son's science teacher (Chiwetel Ejiofor).

'La Dolce Villa' (Feb. 13)
Scott Foley stars in the romantic comedy as a businessman who learns his daughter has bought a fixer-upper villa in the Italian countryside for one euro and plans on using her life savings to refurbish it. He travels to Europe to talk her out of it and winds up having a much-needed life pick-me-up (with a dash of romance).

'The Gorge' (Feb. 14)
Directed by Scott Derrickson ("Doctor Strange"), the sci-fi thriller stars Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy as two secret operatives assigned to protect opposite sides of a mysterious gorge but not communicate with each other. They break the rules, sparks fly, then team up when the hellish evil beneath starts to rise.

'Plankton: The Movie' (March 7)
The "SpongeBob SquarePants" villain/fast-food restaurateur gets his solo movie, an animated musical comedy where Plankton (voiced by Mr. Lawrence, who also wrote the story) has his latest nefarious plans for global domination thwarted and in the process his entire world gets rocked.

'The Electric State' (March 14)
"Avengers" directors Joe and Anthony Russo cross an adventurous road trip with a sci-fi world set after a machine uprising in the adaptation of the Simon Stålenhag book. An orphaned teenager (Millie Bobby Brown) and her robot pal partner with an ex-soldier (Chris Pratt) to navigate a retro-futuristic America and find her younger brother.

'The Life List' (March)
Netflix favorite Sofia Carson ("Purple Hearts") stars in the rom-com as Alex, who's tasked by her mom (Connie Britton) to finish the childhood bucket list the young woman started as a kid. The result is a life-affirming journey of self-discovery with some love, family secrets and maybe a little crying (on your part).

'The Ugly Stepsister' (spring)
For those who love "Bridgerton" and "The Substance," there's this body-horror fairy tale bowing this month at the Sundance Film Festival before streaming later in 2025. Lea Myren stars in the dark twist on a Cinderella tale as Elvira, who goes to creepy lengths to become beautiful and compete with her attractive stepsister for the prince's attention.

'Fountain of Youth' (2025)
Director Guy Ritchie's globe-trotting heist adventure features Natalie Portman and John Krasinski as estranged siblings who come back together and use their big history brains to seek out the mythological Fountain of Youth – and maybe even find some immortality.

'Frankenstein' (2025)
Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro finally gets to put his stamp on a movie-monster classic with this new adaptation of Mary Shelley's famed tale. Oscar Isaac is mad scientist Victor Frankenstein this time around and Jacob Elordi is the creature he brings to life in a sci-fi horror redo also starring Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz.

'Happy Gilmore 2' (2025)
Adam Sandler is back playing unconventional golf in a Boston Bruins jersey in this anticipated comedy sequel. Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald return as love interest Virginia Venit and arrogant rival Shooter McGavin, respectively, and the cast includes rookies like Bad Bunny, Travis Kelce and pro wrestler Maxwell Jacob Friedman.

'In Your Dreams' (2025)
Stevie and her brother Elliot are worried about saving their parents' marriage. To fix their family, they travel to the world of dreams to see if The Sandman (the actual one, not Adam Sandler) will grant them this wish in the animated comedy adventure featuring Simu Liu, Craig Robinson, a snarky stuffed giraffe and the queen of nightmares.

'The Thursday Murder Club' (2025)
An adaptation of the Richard Osman book series, the whodunit stars Helen Mirren, Ben Kingsley, Pierce Brosnan and Celia Imrie as retirees whose twilight years are spent solving cold cases for funsies. But their hobby gets very real when a dead body turns up at the doorstep.

'Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery' (2025)
Daniel Craig's persnickety, Southern-fried super-sleuth Benoit Blanc is back on the case in Rian Johnson's third "Knives Out" murder mystery. Nothing's known about the plot yet but the cast/suspect list is pretty epic: Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott and more.
