You can always rely on the VMAs to deliver jaw-dropping moments and fashion. Unlike more formal Hollywoof events like the Grammys or Oscars, the VMAs is a place where artists throw caution to the wind and embrace a more brazen approach to evening-wear. From meat dresses to flirty wedding gowns, there's never a dull moment, and this year was no different.

A major theme of the evening was the dramatic white gowns worn by Katy Perry, Anitta, Sabrina Carpenter, and Lisa of Blackpink, which were anything but demure. The evening's host, Megan Thee Stallion, however, stunned in an over-the-top black confection by Nicole + Felicia. Another standout included Chappell Roan, who brought a regal air to the carpet in a Renaissance-inspired look.

It's been a busy week for Taylor Swift. A day after her childless cat lady IG post supporting Kamala Harris went viral, the singer made another bold statement on the VMAs carpet. Swift was decked out in a yellow plaid Dior look from their Scottish-inspired resort collection. Black crisscrossing leather gloves and over-the-knee boots added a surprisingly touch to the singer's look.

Megan Thee Stallion in Nicole + Felicia

The evening's host looked nothing less than a bombshell in a black gown by Nicole + Felicia. The breathtaking gown featured a fitted bodice and a sheer skirt wrapped in origami-like black silk taffeta, which looked like a modern take on Hollywood glamour. Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings, rings, and bangles added shine to the star's look.

Chappell Roan in Y/Project

Your favorite artist's favorite artist, Chappell Roan, slayed the VMAs black carpet in a Joan of Arc-inspired look that was anything but boring. Wearing a minty green velvet robe and sheer gown with burgundy tulle paneling from Y/Project, the singer went for quite the unexpected accessory—an Excalibur-worthy sword.

Sabrina Carpenter in Vintage Bob Mackie

Carpenter leaned into her Blonde Ambition by wearing a vintage Bob Mackie dress once worn by Madonna herself. The pearly white sequined column dress featured a crystal-embellished sweetheart neckline, which was emphasized by showstopping jewelry by De Beers.

Tyla in Area

The "Water" singer mopped up the competition in a yellow spaghetti-fringed top and skirt from Area's most recent fall/winter collection, neon green lingerie, and an Alexis Bittar turquoise-painted lucite collar necklace. Talk about making us sweat!

Paris Hilton in Celia Krithariot

Paris Hilton took us back to the '00s with a custom Celia Krithariot chainmail dress that reimagined her iconic mini dress from her 21st birthday party. You know—that one. The look was updated with cutouts, a crystal choker instead of a metallic choker, and silver bangles on both wrists.

Lisa in Mugler

Lisa of Blackpink made her first solo red carpet appearance in a custom Mugler look designed by Casey Cadwallader. The gown was befitted with gloved sleeves, a corseted bodice, and a veil that draped down to her hip. She added a serpentine Bulgari necklace that radiately shined with over 15 carats of diamonds.

Halle Bailey in Sophie Couture

Halle Bailey looked sultry in a scarlet Sophie Couture gown with a plunging neckline and hip cutouts. Shimmering beading highlighted the actress and singer's figure, which descended into a fringed hemline that added to the gown's fluidity.

Grammy-winning artist Coco Jones wore a Lever Couture creation to the VMAs that looked as though she was wonderfully wrapped up in silvery metal netting. The leggy look was balanced with a shoulder flounce and a flowy skirt. Jared Atelier jewelry and heels added major sparkle to the singer's outfit.

Tinashe in Rick Owens

The "Nasty" singer wore a matching black leather top and skirt by Rick Owens that left very little to the imagination. A door-knocker of a pendant necklace added a bit of edge to the soft draping of the look's design.

Camila Cabello in Tony Ward

Camilla Cabello went the dark, romantic route in her nude Tony Ward gown, which sparkled with black lace-like beading cascading throughout. Following the night's trend of wearing veils, the singer topped her look with a black one that added to her look's overall impact and intrigue.

Katy Perry in Who Decides War

Katy Perry wore a white gown from buzzy brand Who Decides War; it walked the NYFW runway just a mere four days ago. The VMAs Vanguard award winner looked positively post-apocalyptic in the abs-bearing look that featured web-like white fabric and gave her a haunting air of dark sophistication.
