11 UNIQLO items you need in your autumn/winter capsule wardrobe

As the weather gets cooler, it can be tempting to buy lots of things to make dressing for autumn/winter easier, but if you pick wisely, you can save money and time by choosing items that work seamlessly together.

UNIQLO is one place that has become a favourite for people looking to update their wardrobe with stylish pieces that won't break the budget.

Speaking with Yahoo Lifestyle, Tash Sefton, who's worked in fashion for many years, revealed why she’s so excited for the autumn/winter season and the brand’s upcoming collaborations, “UNIQLO is already known for their iconic knitwear collections in perfect shapes and colour range – the cashmere collection is my personal favourite. I’m very excited about the Anya Hindmarch collaboration which adds a playful twist to knitwear and JW Anderson who brings elevated everyday style and a vintage vibe you just can’t resist.“

“Knitwear is very important when building a trans-seasonal wardrobe as it’s the perfect layering piece and becomes the ‘basic’ element to your outfit. Start with classic colours first, then add texture and colour if you want to show some personality.”

“Coats are not just about warmth, but this outer layer becomes your style too. The JW Anderson collaboration is about unisex styling with oversized trench coats, duffle coats and fleece parka’s your partner is going to want to borrow. Also loving the vintage slouchy fleece and flannel check shirting for a contemporary streetwear vibe.”

If you really want to make these pieces go further in your wardrobe, try picking colours that will go with items you already have – think black, grey, or beige. But also, they have lots of fun colours, so if it's in the budget, I'd grab a couple! These will pair really well casually or with trousers or a skirt for a slightly dressier feel.

2. Souffle Yarn Long Sleeve Short Cardigan - $49.90

Cardigans are having a moment this season, and these ones are super soft and the perfect piece for autumn. They come in several colours, including red, the hot colour of the season. These will go really well with jeans or dressed up for work with a pair of trousers (like the Pleated Wide Pants mentioned below!).

3. ANYA HINDMARCH 100% Cashmere Sweater - $199.90

A playful take on the 100% cashmere sweater, this is a must-have from UNIQLO’s upcoming collaboration with Anya Hindmarch. The designer was a fan of UNIQLO's classic knitwear and shared how she approached her collaboration in a statement that read: "I decided not to mess with their brilliant silhouettes, but instead to play with them; deconstructing and then rebuilding them with different stitches and exposed seams – and in turn leaving all sort of little design details to make pulling on your knitwear the favourite part of your day. It has been a wonderful learning experience to work with this incredible global team and a really fun project."

We are obsessed with the playful additions, which are also featured on socks, beanies, lambswool crew neck sweaters, scarves and bags.

These pieces will be available on May 23.

4. JW Anderson Oxford Long Shirt - $59.90

A classic white shirt is another great addition to your capsule wardrobe, and we love the embroidery on the pocket of this shirt from the JW Anderson collaboration.

It also comes in blue and pink.

I know, I know, it’s another piece of knitwear, but how cute is this! Another fab addition from the JW Anderson collaboration, their Souffle Yarn Crew Neck Sweater comes in four colours, our personal favourite is red!

6. Pleated Wide Pants (single tuck) - $59.90

I’m not kidding when I say I have these pants in three colours, they are so comfortable and work very well with UNIQLO’s knitwear. They are a must for a capsule wardrobe in my opinion – though you don’t have to get three pairs!

7. Double Face Long Coat - $199.90

The Double Face Long Coat would fit in perfectly with any of the above-mentioned items! I love the beige, but the black and natural colours would also work really well with any of the other items in your wardrobe.

8. Utility Short Blouson - $119.90

A lot of UNIQLO's items are unisex, so don't forget to check the men's section next time you're in-store, as they're usually hiding on that side! The Utility Short Blouson is UNIQLO's take on the trending barn jacket, and we are loving it. I can definitely picture wearing this paired with the Pleated Wide Pants and a knit underneath on a crisp winter’s day.

9. Uniqlo U 100% Cotton Crew Neck T-Shirt - $19.90

These T-shirts are a must all year round – they're so affordable and comfortable. If you don't already have about five of these in your wardrobe, what are you waiting for?

10. HEATTECH Cotton EXTRA WARM Crew Neck T-Shirt - $39.90

I'm always cold, so in winter, I live in HEATTECH, and these long-sleeved T-shirts make for the perfect layering piece. Again, you will find many of these in my wardrobe.
