I grew up on the West Coast of the U.S., where average winter temperatures fall between the upper 60s and low 70s. While I visit home often, I now live in New York City, with frequent visits to my fiancé’s North Dakota home (a.k.a., where “cold” earns a whole new meaning). Needless to say, my tried-and-true lightweight creams don’t cut it in these climates, and my moisturize-zapped skin was showing it. Thankfully, a friend convinced me to try the L'Oréal Paris Collagen Moisture Filler Cream, and it saved my winter skin.
I’d heard good things about L'Oréal’s formulas, with my grandma waxing poetic about the brand and even Jane Fonda giving it her stamp of approval. Still, I was hesitant. Could an $11 cream really work better than a luxury moisturizer worth hundreds of dollars? I learned that it can; turns out, expensive doesn’t always mean better.
The magic is in the shea butter- and collagen-infused formula, which visibly smoothes wrinkles and adds life to the skin by restoring hydration. This is huge, since a lack of collagen—the natural protein responsible for firm, bouncy results—can lead to parched skin. And collagen depletes as we age, giving us even more of a reason to replenish it.

The day-and-night cream is also suitable for all skin types, including sensitive (a.k.a., me). Ever since I went off of hormonal medications used to treat acne, I took a deliberate approach to discovering concoctions that improved my skin without irritating side effects like redness and breakouts. The L'Oréal Collagen Cream passed my rigorous tests, providing smooth, dewy results that braved the icy and windy weather. If you’re extra cautious, consider the fragrance-free alternative.
While the formula is extremely moisturizing (my face literally never feels dry anymore), it’s not sticky or slippery. A little goes a long way, penetrating deep into the skin without feeling like a goopy top coat. I can layer it over serums and under sunscreen without fear of piling or separation—a non-negotiable in top-tier skin care.
Since I’ve made the jump to the $11 L'Oréal Collagen Cream, my moisturizer-zapped skin is a thing of the past, delivering a radiant, revived face. I’ve even been going makeup-free, considering my skin looks better than it has in months. In other words, it’s my top winter skin secret.
