Human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin was back at work this week following her wedding, but it's her last name that's now making headlines.

Alamuddin married Hollywood actor George Clooney in a four-day celebration earlier this month (just in case you were living under a rock...) and made the age-old decision to change her surname.

The name change was quietly published on the Doughty Street Chambers website, where Alamuddin works, which naturally caused it to break due to the high number of fans wanting to see proof that the lawyer had in fact, succumbed to tradition.

According to Facebook though, Amal's name change may be a dying trend, with more women than ever eschewing their married name.

Just 4 per cent of Facebook users had hyphenated their surname to incorporate their maiden name and their husband's surname, the social media site reported, while 63 per cent had adopted their husband's name.

"Married women in their 20s are far more likely to have kept their maiden name than women in their 60s, with experts claiming it is a sign that the younger generation is increasingly embracing feminism," reported the Independent UK.

While there are cases for and against her name change ("Just as Amal will surely spawn a zillion off-the-shoulder wedding gowns, I guess I'd hoped she'd keep her name and maybe inspire some more women to make a similar choice - or at least pull a Beyonce" said marie claire US) we think invariably, it's Alamuddin's (or should we say Clooney's) choice.

Plus, Amal's full name is actually Amal Alamuddin Clooney - she's just shortened it for professional reasons.
