High Heels Aren’t The Cause Of Bunions

We’ve been told for years that high heels are bad for your feet – but now scientists say it’s actually genetics that cause bunions.

The researchers, who titled their report of the findings, "Blame Your Parents for Bunion Woes,” examined the connection between foot pain and type of footwear in over 1,000 adults, concluding that bunions and similar foot disorders (hammer toe, claw toe) are passed on by our parents.

"These new findings highlight the importance of furthering our understanding of what causes greater susceptibility to these foot conditions," said Dr. Marian Hannan, who led the study.

The research explains why some women are comfortable wearing high heels for 8 hours straight, while others, such as Sarah Jessica Parker, are exacerbating the issue by wearing high heels at all.

"I've basically just destroyed my feet," said Parker. "So they feel nothing. I have no feeling in my feet."

According to USA Today, Parker's affliction is nothing out of the ordinary for the average high heel wearer. "Long-term use of stilettos and other forms of offending footwear can lead to a myriad of health concerns," said a leading podiatrist on the program.

The consolation is, those health concerns no longer involve bunions.
