How to get: The bouncy blow-dry

Caterina DiBiase, creative director of Heading Out Hair & Beauty in Melbourne, reveals how to get Hollywood hair at home.

Step 1: Apply a body-building mousse to damp hair through mid lengths and ends, and a volumising spray to the roots. We recommend L’Oréal Paris Elvive Volume Collagen Root Lift Spray, $9.95, and Pantene Pro-V Style Body Builder Mousse, $6.99.Working in sections from the nape of your neck and moving upwards, dry your strands smooth using a round brush and a blow-dryer with nozzle. For maximum volume and movement, lift hair upwards and roll it around the brush as you dry.
Step 2: Once the hair is completely cooled, use a tail comb to lightly backcomb the roots and mist with hairspray.
Step 3: Using a soft cushion brush and working in small sections, gently smooth over your strands. Tip your head back and lightly tousle your fingers through the roots. Finish with a spritz of hairspray all over, and also apply a shine spray to your mid lengths and ends. Try John Frieda Frizz-Ease 100% Shine Glossing Mist Spray, $16.99.

The Beauty Experts Reveal Their Secrets

How to get: The boho braid

Master this relaxed and romantic style, thanks to Caterina DiBiase’s expert advice.

Step 1: Apply a serum or body-building lotion to towel-dried lengths, then mist on sea salt spray for added texture, focusing on your roots. Try Toni & Guy Casual Sea Salt Texturising Spray, $15.99, and Sebastian Professional Volupt Spray Volume Building Spray-Gel, $34. Next, roughly blow-dry your strands using your fingers or a large paddle brush. This style is made up of two fish braids that become joined. To make the top braid, create a side part and start braiding the large section. To do this, gather the hair so that it’s sitting above your eyebrow and split it into two. Take a small cluster of strands from the outer side of the right section and cross it over to the middle. Repeat this process on the left section. Keep repeating until you make your way down to the bottom of the braid and secure with a clip.
Step 2: Brush the remaining hair over to the side and create another fish braid, starting low on the neck.
Step 3: Working from the top of your first plait (near your eyebrow) down to the ends, use both hands to gently pull the fish braid apart. Don’t worry if short pieces fall out as this adds to the look. Fasten a clip on the end and repeat the process on the second braid. Then, remove the clip from the first braid and push the ends of the strands into the top of the second braid to blend them together. Secure the end with a hair tie. We like Smoothies Metal Free Ponytail Holders, $6.50 for a pack of two. Softly tousle the front of your hair to loosen it and set with hairspray.
