Women Under 29 'More Likely To Dominate In The Bedroom'

A new study has revealed women over the age of 30 may be more likely to subscribe to the Fifty Shades of Grey theory – that is, submission in the bedroom.

On the other hand, the Yale University commissioned study found, the majority of females under the age of 29 “didn’t believe” men should dominate in sexual situations.

The 357 female and 126 male participants, who were asked to complete survey questions in private cubicles about their sexual confidence levels, were left alone with bowls of free female condoms with a sign that read, ‘Protect yourself and your partner. Please take some! Free female condoms’.

Findings showed that those who did subscribe to the traditional power dynamics were less likely to report sexual confidence, and therefore less likely to take the free condoms.

“If men believe that men should dominate sexually, this may prevent [their female partners] from feeling open or comfortable discussing sexual behavior and protection or asking questions about things they may not know, which could dampen sexual confidence,” explained Lisa Rosenthal, who headed the study.

“For both women and men, the belief that men should dominate sexually could reduce interest in female condoms.

“[This is] because female condoms are meant to be a woman-centered source of protection and may be seen as violating the norm or belief that men should be in control of sexual situations.”

The findings juxtapose the results of a recent UK survey which revealed that females over the age of 30 are more likely to have sex on a first date, with a third of participants from the age bracket admitting they would get intimate on a first date compared to just 12 per cent of 24 to 27-year-olds.

However, concedes Luke Pomaro, the founder of datewithamate.com, which commissioned the survey, “sleeping with someone on a first date is a completely personal decision and down to the two people who are on the date.

“Everybody has different views on "dating etiquette" and ultimately it is an individual choice.”
