Rosemount Australian Fashion Week has begun with a breath of fresh air as Zimmerman showcase their 2011 spring/summer collection ’Halcyon Days.’
Showcasing at The Classic Throttle shop in North Sydney, the room which had white walls, floors, chairs, and even white goodie bags was full of natural light which complimented the collection.

Zimmerman has returned to nature with neutral colours and natural fabrics (think tweed, cotton and silks).
Designers Nicky and Simone Zimmerman showed off a collection that was very wearable. The inspiration behind the designs she says was memories of the summer that has just gone by. And that’s exactly what was felt watching the models walk past in their free flowing pants, tweed aqua dresses and lacy cut outs.
Zimmerman paid tribute to the collections name showcasing many looks with the gorgeous ‘halcyon’ floral print, the perfect print for the coming summer.
The designs were structured and unstructured. Most of the show was all white on white, sheer lacy fabrics, flowery prints and free falling dresses, but there was also tweed dresses, jumpsuit and blazer that were more sophisticated and less beach wear.

The silhouettes are technical in there construction with leather stripping, appliqué fabrics, embroidery and lots of lace. The focus on natural texture was also evident in their heavily woven silks, silk linens and white cotton.

The Mad Men trend was not far from mind as the girls in crop tops and high waisted skirts walked past, outfits Betty Draper could wear to her beach house.
They left us wanting more in the swimwear department, only showcasing a few one and two piece items in a soft pastel floral print. But what we saw was flattering and feminine.
The makeup was very natural and earthy with a hint of gold around the eyes, complimenting the neutral designs. The simplicity continued to the models hair, which was casually pulled back and in a low pony tail that coincided with the effortless, down-to-earth looks.
Watching the models walk past for the last time, the designs made us all want to jump on a plane (or a yacht) and head to the hot tropics. This collection will make for some very stylish holiday wardrobe.
