Tom Cruise appears on the cover of 'W' magazine in the US looking like we've never seen him look before.

In the cover-shoot the uber-famous Cruise, 49, sports tattoos, long hair, eyeliner, and what may just be an eight-pack.

Cruise, 49, is also sandwiched rather suggestively between models Abbey-Lee Kershaw and Edita Vilkeviciute.

The new look is due to his lead role as hair metal rocker Stacee Jaxx in the screen adaptation of Broadway musical 'Rock of Ages', which also stars Malin Akerman, Julianne Hough, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand.

Jaxx's sexuality is an important part of the character and explains the 'W' shoot's sexy aesthetic.

Cruise reportedly told 'W' that “I knew we had to push the sexuality because of the nature of the character and the songs.”

While she didn't make it to the cover, Cruise's wife Katie Holmes also posed in the 'W' photoshoot.

Set in 1987, 'Rock of Ages' with its all-star cast, will only add fuel to the roaring fire that is eighties-inspired fashion right now.

Looks like neon and bold prints - including leopard - aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
