Zendaya and Tom Holland Had a Good Reason to Skip the SAG Awards

Awards season continued Sunday night, but without Zendaya and her fiancé, Tom Holland. The couple chose not to attend the SAG Awards. It makes sense when you consider that Holland has no nominations, while Zendaya’s film Dune: Part Two has one that does not include the actress: Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture. Zendaya’s other big project, Challengers, did not receive any nominations. Its exclusion was viewed by critics as a snub.
Zendaya has only attended the Golden Globes so far this awards season. Challengers was shut out at the Oscars as well, but Dune: Part Two has a Best Picture nod, raising the chances of Zendaya making an appearance there next Sunday.
As for Holland, his absence from awards season reflects his general desire to not overshadow the big days in Zendaya’s career. The Spider-Man star recently explained to Men’s Health that while he does attend his partner’s premieres, he does not pose on the red carpet with her “because it’s not my moment, it’s her moment, and if we go together, it’s about us.” He only attends mandatory industry events for the same reason: He wants to keep the attention on the people who deserve the flowers.
Zendaya and Holland have yet to speak about their relationship milestone since their engagement was confirmed. This isn’t surprising though, as the couple has kept most of their love story to themselves throughout their years together.
In summer 2023, Zendaya spoke to ELLE about navigating the balance between her public and private lives. She acknowledged the fan interest in her and Holland, saying, “Parts of my life, I accept, are going to be public. I can’t not be a person and live my life and love the person I love. But also, I do have control over what I choose to share. It’s about protecting the peace and letting things be your own but also not being afraid to exist. You can’t hide. That’s not fun, either. I am navigating it more than ever now.”
