Yorkie Soaking Up Last Bit of Summer Sun Is the Epitome of Happiness

Do you ever wish to have the life of your dog? As most pet parents can attest, our pups have it pretty good. With no job to report to, bills to pay, or obligations to stress about, they have an untroubled existence. Some, even more than others.

This darling diva is a prime example of what it’s like to have a carefree afternoon nap in the sun. It looks much more ideal than spending time behind a desk.

See how she’s living her best life in this video shared on August 30:

We can learn a lot about happiness simply by observing our dogs. They understand that tomorrow isn’t promised and know how to make the most of each day. Sweet Emily (@nycyorkiegirls) certainly does, anyway. This Yorkshire Terrier is soaking up the last of the summer sun while lying on her back, with the warmth on her tiny belly. She doesn’t have a care in the world as she’s blissfully drifted into dreamland. Even though Mom provided her with soft and cushy loungers, she chose the concrete instead. LOL! Perhaps she’s trying to connect with the earth, or it’s toasty warm, providing her with heat from both sides. However, after Mom pointed this out, it wasn’t long before she saw her on her new chair, looking like the princess she was meant to be. Sometimes, it’s scary to think about how much they understand when we talk to them.

Why Do Dogs Love Sunbathing?

Lying in the sun makes animals feel good, just like it does for us. It also has many benefits, as mentioned by Hampton Park Veterinary. It can boost serotonin, help their joints, and treat some skin conditions. It also ensures they get adequate amounts of vitamin D and helps regulate their circadian rhythms, promoting more restful sleep. However, dogs are also at risk of overheating, sunburn, and skin cancer. So, just as we need to regulate how much time we spend in direct sunlight, pet parents must ensure they maintain their body temperature and aren’t getting too much midday sun.

People understood where Emily was coming from. Viewer @bodhi_titan_brothers reported, “This a Yorkie’s favorite position!” It’s hard to be. Viewer @holistapet remarked, “Sunbathing for that healthy glow.” Dogs always know what’s good. Another person responded, “Oh my! What a cutie. She’s ready for a belly rub.” That’s a good point; perhaps that’s why they all enjoy sleeping in this position.

With fall rapidly approaching, this is a terrific reminder to enjoy these warmer days. Even just a few minutes of outside time can improve our mood and allow us to connect with nature and our dogs.
