Yes, Mariah Carey Wore Towering Platforms to Walk the Great Wall of China: 'Someone Should've Warned Me'
The pop star, who has said she doesn't own sneakers, just journeyed to one of the Seven Wonders of the World in heels
Mariah Carey and her heels have us feeling emotions.
Over the weekend, the mega-star, 55, shared photos from her trip to the Great Wall of China with her 13-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan, whom she shares with ex Nick Cannon, and fans couldn't get over her outfit.
The Grammy winner — who is set to perform in Beijing — wore a black crochet dress and towering platform mules for her trip to the iconic monument.
In a video shared to X (formerly Twitter), Carey can be seen holding onto two people for support as she slowly walks up multiple steps in her heels.
She then poked fun at herself on the app, writing, “Someone should’ve warned me about heels.” But, in Mariah Carey fashion, she added, “Not that I would’ve listened.”
The Internet had a lot to say on Carey’s glamorous (made-for-stage) look, especially her choice of footwear, but her fans’ reactions were all praise and positivity.
“Queen of climbing the Great Wall with heels on,” one commented under Carey’s Instagram post featuring the same family photos she shared to X. “Mariah going up the Great Wall in a gown and high heels will forever be etched in my memory,” another added.

Even if Carey wanted to actually wear sneakers on the trek, she wouldn’t be able to find a pair in her closet.
When she appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show last November, the pop star revealed that she doesn't own a single pair of kicks because they give her blisters (her alternative footwear, you wonder? "I wear slippers!” she told the host). She then explained that wearing heels just comes naturally to her because she walks on her toes “no matter what.”
