'Yellowstone' Star Cole Hauser Owns the Ultimate Memento from Set
Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler) might not seem like the most sentimental animal guy on the Dutton ranch but in real life, he has a big heart for his four-legged friends. In addition to being quite the dog person off-screen (in contrast to his admission to Beth that he doesn’t like dogs on the show), Cole revealed that his relationship with his horse extends beyond the show.
While in conversation with film critic Kevin McCarthy back in 2022, Cole explained that he actually owns his horse, King, from Yellowstone. While he stays on the ranch under Taylor Sheridan’s watchful eye, ready and waiting for filming, Cole said that he kept in constant touch to ensure his horse was being diligently cared for between takes.
“He’s living the high life down in Texas, I promise you,” Cole assured Kevin. “...I called Taylor probably once a week on my horse. ‘Is he getting fat? Are you keeping him in shape?’ You know, he’s like Usain Bolt, he’s an athlete.”
Forever swooning over Cole, his role, and his real-life endeavors, fans were quick to reminisce on this ownership.
“I love this! Viggo Mortonsen also bought his horse that he rode for Lord of the Rings—he just fell in love with him and couldn’t let him go,” one fan commented on Kevin’s throwback post. “Amazing! And yes that bond is right and tight and magical between horse and rider. Happy to hear you own King,” another fan remarked. “He owns the horse! That’s what’s up,” someone else exclaimed. “Russell Crowe had the same horse in a few different movies, he said they formed a bond. So sweet,” another fan pointed out.
Cole isn’t the only one to own a horse from the show. Unsurprisingly, showrunner Taylor Sheridan does, too. His bay gelding, Dun It Chexinic, appeared in Season 1, Episode 3 “No Good Horses.”
