The Yellowstone universe continues drawing in fans, and the latest show in the franchise is no exception.
When 1923 debuted on Paramount+ in December 2022, viewers immediately became enamored with a new set of Duttons. They saw Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren) strive to keep the Montana lands originally owned by Jacob's brother James (Tim McGraw in 1883). What's more, they witnessed the couple face their own trials and tribulations, which included the Great Depression looming over their heads.
Viewers also saw Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) fall in love with Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) across the world. Unfortunately, the two fell apart as quickly as they came together, but something tells us it's not the last we've seen of the couple.

In February 2023, Paramount+ announced that 1923 got renewed for season 2. According to Variety at the time, the latest Yellowstone spin-off became "the most-watched Paramount+ premiere of all time in the U.S. with 7.4 million viewers." While there's no official indication that season 2 will be the final season, actor Brandon Sklenar seemed to think otherwise.
When speaking in a Q&A with the 1923 cast hosted by The Hollywood Reporter in May 2023, he seemingly inferred that all the storylines will be tied up by the end of season 2. "It's [a] bookend," he said during the virtual event. "[The series is] still limited, but I think of it as one piece — there's just a split in the middle, but it's all one piece. It will conclude."

What will 1923 season 2 be about?
As viewers may remember, the final episode of season 1 ended in a battle between Hank (Michael Greyeyes) and Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves). While Teonna survived the scuffle, it will be some time before folks learn if she managed to escape her boarding school and not get caught by those looking for her.
As for Spencer (Brendan Sklenar) and Alex (Julia Schlaepfer), their romance turned tragic when they ran into Alex's ex-fiancé while they were onboard a ship. He and Spencer eventually got into a duel, which led to Spencer killing said man. While the two seemingly split at the end of the season, the newest installment will likely see the two forging their own separate ways to Yellowstone and hopefully reuniting.

Both Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren will return for 1923 season 2. When creator Taylor Sheridan spoke to Deadline in December 2022 about the stars coming back to portray Jacob and Cara Dutton, he explained how thrilled they were to continue making more episodes.
"They were excited," he told the outlet. "They only signed on originally for one season. They were so eager to continue it … Harrison made a comment at one point, he goes, 'Taylor I think I’m making the best thing I’ve made in 20 years.' And my response to him was, 'What the f--- did you make 20 years ago as good as this? What was that? I missed that one. What was it?'"
Harrison later commented on a season 2 return to The Hollywood Reporter in February 2024, agreeing with Taylor's sentiments.
"[Shrinking] came along, and then, very quickly after that, 1923 came along," he explained about his work schedule. "I took the job without a script on both of them, on faith that the people who created the projects were going to deliver me a good script. I really didn’t realize how much work 1923 was going to be, and I absolutely feel it’s worth it."
