Woman's Husband Invites His Mom Along on Two-Week Couples' Trip — Without Telling Her First
"There is no going back, the decision has been made, flights booked and everything," the woman writes in an anonymous post
A woman says she was looking forward to a weeks-long trip with her husband and dog — until he announced he had also invited his mother.
In a post shared anonymously to Reddit, the woman describes herself and her husband as "digital nomads," noting that they spend six months out of every year traveling abroad when they aren't home in the U.S. This year, they're focusing on exploring Brazil, as their families live in the country.
"It’s just me, him and our baby dog, enjoying our mighty time as couples," she writes. Or, at least, that's what she thought it would be.
During a recent dinner, though, her husband dropped the news that he and his mother have decided that she should come along for a two-week portion of the trip.

"Two weeks, with my mother in law, in a tiny apartment," the woman writes. "There is no going back, the decision has been made, flights booked and everything."
The woman adds that her husband had already planned to spend two months with his mom and extended family at the tail end of the trip and that she, as his wife, was "completely left out of the decision."
"I believe as a married couple you should consult each other first before making decisions like this," she writes, adding, "I would probably try to negotiate it down to one week, but he didn’t even give me an opportunity to share my input or whether I would be OK with it."
Calling it "a huge lack of respect," the woman says that she and her husband have since gotten into an argument about his decision and that he is "extremely offended that I wasn’t 100% happy and excited that his mom is spending the two weeks with us."
"He even went as far as physically removing his wedding band as a way of showing 'either you accept my mom or we can go our separate ways,' " she adds.
Several commenters on the post have described the husband as "emotionally manipulative," saying he took things too far by threatening divorce.
"It sounds to me like he's going to the extreme so she'll back down. This is incredibly manipulative," wrote one commenter.
Another offered some advice to the original poster: "Change your flight home and go as soon as you can. Take the puppy, leave the ring and a note to enjoy time with his mom."
