Woman Wants to Name New Baby After Late Father. Her In-Laws Are Appalled at 'Naming Someone After a Corpse'
The woman's in-laws have been pushing back hard on her choice in baby name
A couple having two babies via surrogate is now facing criticism from one wife's family due to the names they've chosen for their future children.
In a post on Reddit, an anonymous woman shares that she and her wife have been married for four years, but are unable to have kids biologically and ultimately decided on surrogacy.
The only problem, she writes, is her in-laws. Her wife's parents, she explains in the post, are "overall bad people."
But once the couple found out they were having children, the in-laws "flipped a switch."
"They suddenly became supportive and loving and acted as if they didn’t abandon and shame my wife for ages," she writes. Until, that is, the couple announced the names they had chosen for their children.
"One of our babies, a girl, will be named after our surrogate, who we will call Lily," the woman writes. "With my son, we have been considering multiple names, all surrounding my late father. My wife has been supportive of this idea. My dad, Andrew, passed a year ago from cancer. It was difficult for me; especially since he was my only parent and he raised me my whole life. My dad was unbelievably supportive of our relationship; he was even the best man at our wedding."
Once the woman's in-laws found out they were naming their future son after the poster's father, "They came to our home unannounced and immediately ridiculed me ... They said some very disrespectful things about my dad and demanded we name our son after them and to (in their words) 'forget the idea of naming someone after a corpse.' "
In the days since, the in-laws have continued to "pester" the couple about the name issue, and have even continued to show up to their home unannounced. Now, "other members of my wife’s family are calling me a jerk," the woman adds.

Reddit users are offering their support for the couple, imploring the poster to "ghost" the in-laws before the babies arrive.
"Move if you have to. Stop answering the door, change the locks if they have a key," writes one commenter. "Block their numbers ... anything to keep their insanity from traumatizing your kids."
Adds another: "They sound disturbed and creepy. I wouldn’t let my children anywhere near them. Why your wife is still dealing with them is beyond me."
