Student refuses to be trolled for unshaven legs

A student who stopped shaving her legs is refusing to let trolls bother her after she copped backlash for posting a video online.

Ana Calatayud Perez-Manglano stopped shaving in November last year because she no longer wanted to, and wasn’t about to bow to society’s standards.

“I am tired of having to shave because I’m obliged to by society, and I won’t do so until I feel like it,” the 24-year-old said.

After uploading a video of her legs to social media, the fine arts student clocked up over 9k shares.

However, it turns out that some people felt personally victimised by her completely natural hair, and Ana received dozens of sexist, vitriolic messages.

“I would break up with my girlfriend if she looked like this,” one man wrote.

While there were also personal comments about her sex life, and people labelling her choice ‘horrible and disgusting.’

But Ana has just shrugged it off, saying she doesn’t care what people think.

She said she’s ‘not ashamed’ of being natural, and can’t see what all the fuss is about.

“I am not ashamed of having hairy legs – women are like this, and we choose to shave or not if we don’t want to,” she said.

“It has nothing to do with feminism or trying to make a point – I just didn’t want to.”

Despite the negativity, Ana also said she received supportive messages from women who wanted to thank her for normalising body hair.

“I have to say there were a lot of people who messaged me to say ‘thank you’ or just to support me and that’s what I am going to keep from all this,” she added.

Ana isn’t the only woman to have found herself on the receiving end of trolling thanks to her decision not to shave or pluck her body hair.

Last month, a model whose monobrow has lead to her becoming an Instagram sensation revealed she regularly receives death threats.

The model – Sophia Hadjipanteli – opts not to pluck her naturally bushy eyebrows, and the look is very striking.
