'Over the line': Woman's shock at male colleague's X-rated gift offer

A woman has shared her shock and confusion online, after one of her male co-workers offered to buy her a rather X-rated gift - namely a sex toy.

"My guy friend at work mentioned that he would buy me a vibrator. Should I be worried?" the woman asked on a Reddit relationship advice forum.

Though she added it was 'likely as a joke', the woman explained she was worried this may have crossed the territory from 'flirty banter' to 'red flag'.

"He's a very talkative guy so his flirty banter I usually take as a joke, but I'm not sure if I should take this as a red flag," she wrote in the post.

"He's married and usually talks about his wife so I'm sure he's in a loving relationship but I was just taken aback by the vibrator joke especially because he knows I have never been in a relationship."

She went on to explain the conversation started with him asking why she was silent at the office that day.

"He enumerated potential reasons why. Among which, he asked was I on my period that's why I'm quiet He also heard that day I'm resigning, then he teased about buying me a vibrator before I leave the company."

There was one commenter who said it "could be a joke. I have a coworker who has made similar comments", however the huge majority of people called it out as "unacceptable behaviour".

"It's really unwise to allow sexual banter in your workplace. Keep it professional," one person wrote.

While another agreed: "Yeah that’s over the line, especially if he’s married. Gross. I’d consider at least distancing, but possibly reporting his behaviour at work too."
