Woman Says Her Boyfriend Wanted to Buy a PS5 Together, But Instead She Got It Herself and Now He's 'Pissed’
"I texted my boyfriend I wanted to buy a PS5 later that day and I did," the woman wrote on Reddit
A woman said she got into hot water with her boyfriend after buying a PlayStation 5 by herself when he had wanted to buy it together.
In a recent post on Reddit's "Am I the A-----," the 26-year-old woman said that she and her boyfriend, also 26, have been discussing purchasing a PS5 since moving in together 8 months ago, but their different financial situations got in the way.
The woman said that when she met her boyfriend, she already had a job that payed well, while he "didn't have a serious job."
"But he worked hard so we could live together and he now has a job with a decent income," she added, sharing that he still "makes less than me" and that they split the rent accordingly.
One thing they've always had in common is they "really love gaming together" — and that they both wanted to get a PS5 and ditch her Nintendo Switch console.
"He mentioned he would like to buy a ps5 together," the woman wrote, adding that while they'd never talked about who would primarily be playing on it, "the costs would be split in half."
However, since her boyfriend — who is currently has a PS4 — didn't have the money to make the purchase, the woman said they "dropped the subject." But then it came back up again when she decided she had "more than enough savings" and chose to buy it herself.
"I texted my boyfriend I wanted to buy a PS5 later that day and I did," she wrote.
"Now my boyfriend's pissed," she added, noting that who the console belongs to has also become a point of contention.
The woman said that her boyfriend "got upset" after she told him that until he can afford to pay his half, the console is hers — although she was quick to add that she told her boyfriend "he can always play on it if I'm not home."

However, since her boyfriend got so upset, the woman decided to ask her fellow Redditors if they felt like she was in the wrong — but most took her side.
"I am struggling to see his perspective here. I understand that you discussed buying the ps5 together at some point, but he can’t afford it. You bought it anyway, and you’re still offering to let him use it when you’re not. What more does he want?" one commenter wrote. "To me it sounds like he’s jealous because he wants to play the ps5 and possibly stick you with the ps4. I just can’t understand why else this would matter so much to him."

Others pointed out that since the pair haven't been together for very long anyway, buying things together doesn't necessarily make sense.
As one commenter pointed out, "Because if you break up who get's what?"
