Woman laments ‘small’ $2K ring and gets slammed online

For many women, their engagement ring is one of their most treasured pieces of jewellery.

But seeing as it’s chosen by your beloved (and not yourself) there’s plenty of room for error.

More than a couple of ladies have ended up with rings they’re less than impressed with; whether that means it’s a shape they don’t like, or a style that just doesn’t suit them.

But what if you’re not happy with the size? (And we’re not talking about ring size…)

One newly engaged woman took to the Mumsnet forum yesterday to lament that her husband-to-be hadn’t spent enough money on her ring.

“His salary is nearing a 6 figure sum and he’s usually very generous,” she explained.

“Having seen the receipt I know he paid £1,300 (AU$2K) for it – which is a lot less than I would have imagined he would have spent on such a significant piece of jewellery.”

She added that while she was so happy to accept when he got down on one knee, “I was disappointed when I first saw the ring”.

“The first word that entered my head was ‘small’.

“There’s nothing to dislike about the type of ring per se, as a diamond solitaire would have been my choice, but it’s the whole thing - the colour of the gold, the setting, the small stone and relatively chunky shoulders.”

Unsurprisingly, the user was quickly slammed by others who thought she was being “grabby”

“Blimey. I'd have been delighted; talk about being ungrateful,” one person said, while another remarked, “if it's simply not big and flashy enough...it sounds like you're more interested in showing off the ring than you are in him.”

But it wasn’t all hate and some people sided with the user, with one saying, “You are the person who will be wearing the ring and having to look at it all day every day. The cost is not as much of a factor but you must be happy with the look of the ring.”
