A woman says she refuses to attend her sister's upcoming wedding because her daughter was not given a flower girl role.

In a post on Reddit, the woman explained that her sister Anna is getting married next month and her fiancé's two nieces have been chosen to serve as flower girls. The woman said her 6-year-old daughter Lucy expressed her excitement about being included too and "kept asking" about it.

However, when the woman brought it up with the bride-to-be, she was surprised when her sister said "they already had enough flower girls and didn't want to add more because it would complicate things."

"I was upset because our family is really close, and I thought it would be obvious that Lucy would be included in such a special role," the woman wrote.

As for Lucy, she "was devastated and cried for hours" after learning the disappointing news that she would not be a flower girl in her aunt's wedding.

"Seeing her so upset made me even more angry with my sister," the woman noted, saying the situation spurred her to take a stand for her daughter.

"I called Anna and told her that if she couldn't make a small change to include Lucy, we wouldn't be attending the wedding at all," she recalled. "Anna accused me of trying to manipulate her wedding plans and said I was being unreasonable."

The women's parents even stepped into the fray, taking Anna's side. "Our parents think I'm overreacting and that I should not miss the wedding over this, but I feel like my daughter's feelings are being completely disregarded," the woman insisted.

In the comments, fellow Redditors sympathized with the fact that Lucy was overlooked by her aunt — but also told the woman that she was acting "unreasonable" and "entitled."

"This is your sister's wedding — it isn't about you and your daughter," one person wrote, while another agreed: "This isn’t your special day. It’s Anna’s. Whatever she wants goes, and it’s wild you’re putting your 6-year-old's feelings over your relationship with your sister."

A few commenters even suggested the woman was using her daughter "to create drama."

"A six year old doesn't know or care about being a flower girl or being excited about weddings unless YOU told her she was gonna be one and got her all hyped before you invited yourself and your child into the wedding party. She wouldn't have known she was missing anything unless you put the idea in her head," one person argued.

Someone else encouraged the woman to rise above the flower girl disagreement and be there to support her sister on her big day.

"Respect your sister and her fiancé’s wishes and go have fun at their wedding," they wrote. "It may be disappointing for you both, but it’s not worth ditching their wedding out of protest."
