Woman fined over 'indecent' festival outfit: 'So embarrassed'

A woman has gone viral after she blasted police officers who fined her for "indecent exposure" due to the outfit she wore to a family-friendly festival.

Casey Lacaze-Lachney posted a video on TikTok showing off the outfit she wore and the fine she was slapped with.

She explained she wore a brown midriff and cut-off denim shorts with a belt to the event in Winnfield in the US state of Louisiana on June 11.

"All my bits are covered, the f***? Are you kidding me? At a family event where there's alcohol being literally handed out for free, and that's a family event," she said in her furious TikTok rant.

"Three female cops came up to me and gave me a f***ing ticket. I live a mile down the road. They literally could have just been like, 'Hey, ma'am, could you put some clothes on?' and I'd be like, 'Yeah cool, I'll be right back'. But no, they gave me a f***ing ticket for indecent exposure.

In another TikTok video, Casey said she would be fighting the fine and had even hired a lawyer.

"I've cried over this many times, I've actually lost friends over this so it has impacted me ... more than I thought it would," she said

She added that she never usually showed as much skin as she did when wearing the outfit in question.

"It took a lot for me to leave the house like this," she responded to a follower's comment.

"I was so embarrassed during the citation."

She added it was a hot day with a temperature of more than 32 degrees and 80 per cent humidity.

Followers were shocked she received the fine, with many thinking it was unwarranted.

"Woooow the world is backwards," one said.

"What? That’s ridiculous you look fine, that’s not indecent exposure at all," another shocked follower said.

"Oh wow!!! this is insanity, what the hell is next??" a third added.

'I don't want anyone to feel the embarrassment I felt'

Casey's lawyer posted on Facebook that he had asked for police bodycam footage of the incident.

"When I asked Casey what resolution she wanted, she said, 'I don’t ever want another person to feel the embarrassment I felt in front of my children'," her lawyer said.

The Winnfield Police Department also posted a message on Facebook responding to videos on social media about the incident.

While the post doesn't mention Casey by name, it said "three female officers responded to various complaints about the person’s attire and the person of interest was issued a citation under the city ordinance".

Police said under the ordinance it is unlawful for any person to wear pants, trousers, shorts, skirts, dresses or skorts in any public place that intentionally exposes undergarments or any portion of the pubic hair, cleft of buttocks, or genitals.

Fines range from US$25 for the first offence with a maximum penalty of US$300.
