A woman has shared the shocking moment she was coughed on by another customer at a supermarket in Florida.
Heather Sprague, who is a brain tumour patient, shared the video online along with some context, claiming the shopper - at Pier One in the St. John's Town Center in Jacksonville - had been irate and yelling at workers as she was unable to return an item she did not have with her.
“Yesterday I learned firsthand the power of conscientious bystanders. It took 30 seconds to end 15 minutes of aggressive harassment,” Heather wrote in the post that has since gone viral.
“I’m a mother of ten, and currently a brain tumour patient at Mayo Clinic. Obviously, I don’t get out much right now.”
She said the woman - dubbed ‘Karen’ - was “becoming increasingly belligerent”.
“She was screaming at, swearing, insulting, and threatening the staff as she demanded to return an item she didn’t have with her, just a photo of the item on her phone,” Heather explains. “The staff were professional and respectful. But they couldn’t return an item she didn’t actually have with her.”
That’s when Heather decided to simply film the woman’s actions.
“I stood at a distance, pulled out my phone and wordlessly began filming. She immediately turned her attention away from the staff to me. When bullies are faced with accountability they must acknowledge the unacceptability of their actions.”
However before storming out of the store, the irate customer made a rude gesture towards Heather, before deciding to instead walk up to her and cough in her face - an action which has been condemned by the masses.
“Oh my! I am so sorry this happened to you. That’s just awful. I hope she is found and learns a lesson, that’s absolutely not ok,” one person commented on the post that has since been shared over 15K times.
“Thats crazy!!! I'm so sorry that this belligerent person decided to do an unforgivable act! Shame shame shame on her!” another outraged person wrote.
The clip was quickly shared by local news outlets, and even caught the attention of celebrity blogger and media personality Perez Hilton, who shared it to his channels.
“Coughing on someone should be illegal, right?” Perez captioned the clip on his Youtube channel.
