Why ‘Hollywood Squares’ Reboot Isn’t Airing Tonight As Initially Planned

For Drew Barrymore, making Hollywood Squares has been a dream come true. She grew up watching the veteran game show, after all, and was in the process of rebooting it before the pandemic hit. And, unfortunately, she'll have to defer that dream one more week, as the two-episode premiere of Hollywood Squares, originally scheduled to air tonight, Jan. 9, has been pushed back.

CBS has announced that the show will be pushed back a week "in light of the ongoing tragic wildfires in Los Angeles and the surrounding areas." Hollywood Squares has put a number of episodes in the can at the time of its premiere, unlike other series like Grey's Anatomy and Jimmy Kimmel Live! that put production on pause due to the dangerous and devastating circumstances. Instead, the hourlong slot will be filled by reruns of Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage and Ghosts.

Those eagerly awaiting the newest version of Hollywood Squares featuring Barrymore at the center square and Nate Burleson as host luckily won't have to wait long. The two-episode premiere will now air one week later, Thursday, Jan. 16 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. And the opening hour will contain an all-star lineup, including Tyra Banks, Drew Carey, and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.
