Whoopi Goldberg Says Travis Kelce Faces 'Double Standard' Amid Taylor Swift Proposal Speculation
Travis Kelce could make history on Feb. 9 with his team, the Kansas City Chiefs, if they win the Super Bowl for the third year in a row.
But despite his monumental achievement, the NFL player has been fielding seemingly as many questions about his private life as his professional one this week, with speculation swirling that he could soon ask his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, to marry him.
On Feb. 3 during the Super Bowl’s opening night event, Kelce was asked if he plans to propose to the pop superstar, prompting him to reply with a smile and a coy “Wouldn’t you like to know?”
Panelists on The View discussed the topic on the Feb. 8 episode of the morning show, giving their take on the matter. Whoopi Goldberg took issue with the relationship questions that Kelce has been getting, rising to his defense.
“As if the Chiefs' Travis Kelce doesn’t have enough on his mind right now, he was asked whether he was going to propose to Taylor Swift. He’s playing his game!” the Ghost star exclaimed. “It’s his day! Can’t he have his daggone day?!” she said before throwing to a series of clips where reporters asked Kelce about Swift, from her acting like a good-luck charm for the team to her cooking skills.
“It seems to be a bit of a double standard when it comes to asking men personal questions, because some questions just feel invasive. I know everybody wants to know, but this is, as he’s said, this is the biggest game of his life,” continued Goldberg. “If he does it, let it be a surprise to everybody.”
Sunny Hostin then chimed in to say that she thinks “it’s great that they’re together. They’re obviously in love, I believe in true love, y’all know that. But this is about the sport, this is about his game. Why are all the questions about Taylor Swift and what kind of food she makes for him?”
“Let the man bask in his moment. He made it to the Super Bowl for the third time, that’s a big deal!” proclaimed Hostin.
Ana Navarro quipped that while she’d love to know more about Swift’s famous homemade Pop-Tarts, she’s wondering “why he has to propose to her. Why couldn’t she propose to him? We are in 2025, she could be on that Jumbotron with a sign, ‘Travis Kelce, will you marry me?’”
Her fellow panelists laughed at her idea, but Navarro parried back, saying, “Give me some grace! There’s two of them!”
