Whole Foods is Discontinuing a Popular Bakery Item, and Fans are So Distressed, They’re ‘Falling to Their Knees'

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about fandom, it’s that if a highly sought after menu item is removed from existence, you’ll have a wave of unsatisfied customers taking to social media to express their disappointment. Such is the case currently for Whole Foods, who recently decided to shake things up with one of their fan-favorite cake offerings.

Unfortunately, for who once enjoyed partaking in a slice of the deliciously sweet Berry Chantilly cake might need to mentally prepare themselves for what could be the end of an era. It’s quite normal for any grocery establishment to switch up the way they do things, especially if a product is not performing as well as it once did.

While on a trip to her local Whole Foods market, @mylegalera discovered that slices of her beloved Berry Chantilly cake were no longer available for purchase. After recovering from her shocking discovery, Lisa took to TikTok to share the news, as well as inform viewers on exactly what is happening, thanks to some insight from one of the employees.

“I just received the worst news ever in my entire life,” Lisa mentions at the start of her video. Lisa goes on to tell viewers that an employee informed her of the immediate changes surrounding the popular cake, saying that the cake is “now going to be sent to stores frozen with no fruit inside.”

As disappointing as that may already be, Lisa goes on to explain that not only is the cake itself being altered, slices are now unavailable.

“The only real Berry Chantilly’s left are the full cakes,” Lisa exclaims with a lack of excitement.

In addition to the change in preparation and ingredients, Lisa also informs viewers that the price of the cake is reported to be changing soon. As of right now, customers can find 6-inch and 8-inch Berry Chantilly cakes for $30 and $40 respectively, as well as Berry Chantilly cupcakes for $2.50 each. The cupcakes appear to still be topped with fresh fruit, so while the slices may soon be unavailable, it looks like fans can still get their snack fix by way of a tasty cupcake.

As news develops, we’ll be on the lookout for possible substitutions for this super sweet fan-favorite dessert, however, the writing on the wall in this case is pretty undeniable. Just knowing that the cake will potentially be shipped to stores frozen, without fresh fruit inside is enough to assume the taste will be affected dramatically. Here’s hoping we are pleasantly surprised and the rumors online aren’t entirely true.
