Home and Away has bid farewell to Steve Peacocke, after his alter ego Darryl 'Brax' Braxton staged his own death and fled Summer Bay following a cliffhanger car accident that had fans wondering whether he'd live or die.

"It is a good storyline to leave with," Peacocke, who announced his departure from Seven's iconic drama in February, told the Daily Telegraph. "This is a really cool way to leave. Any time you get to do cool stunts and action, it always makes work more fun too."

Up next: Hollywood's big screen. Peacocke, who last year wed longtime love, actress Bridgette Sneddon, in secret, made his U.S. debut in 2014's action film Hercules. He has two films slated for 2016: a comedy, Fun House, with and Tina Fey and Margot Robbie, and drama Me Before You, alongside Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke.

"I was sort of worried that I'd get married and be unemployed straightaway, but it's been six months of seeing the world so far, so we can't complain," said Peacocke. "I want to be in film now, and I've been lucky enough to get a bit of work. You just take everything as it comes."

The 34-year-old was an instant hit when he joined Home and Away in 2011 as the leader of the River Boys surfer gang. His most recent storyline saw him become a dad to son Casey with Bonnie Sveen's character Ricky Sharpe while facing up to the law in jail.

Downplaying the heartthrob status which landed him three Logies including 2015's Most Popular Actor, "It's surprising -- I think Brax is probably a bit of a sexy character, but me, I'm pretty ordinary," the Los Angeles-based star told WHO in 2014. "I'm a lot less cool."

Home and Away airs Monday to Thursday at 7:00pm on Seven.
