Here’s Where You May Recognize the Cast of ITV’s ‘Joan’ From
If you haven’t been watching ITV’s Joan this week, then respectfully, what are you doing with your life? The six-part drama series tells a dramatization of the real-life story of one of Britain’s most notorious thieves, Joan Hannington. Joan’s story in the show begins with her as a young mom desperate to find a way out of the abusive situation she and her daughter find themselves in and ultimately leads to her swallowing diamonds at her first job, meeting her future husband Boisie, and the two of them starting a life of crime together. Oh, and to top it off, the project is full of 80s glamour, a banging soundtrack, and an incredible cast. And speaking of the cast...here’s what you need to know about where you might recognize their faces from!
Joan Hannington
Joan is the main character of the series. She’s a young woman who ends up becoming one of the UK’s most notorious jewel thieves, known for her unique method of stealing gems by swallowing them. She has a young daughter called Kelly, whom she puts in foster care to keep safe from her abusive ex. Ultimately, Joan does everything in her power to get her back.
Sophie Turner
Sophie Turner, 28, plays Joan in the ITV series. You will, of course, best know Sophie from her role as Sansa Stark in all eight seasons of Game of Thrones. She’s also known for starring in the X-Men movies as Phoenix, her cameo appearance in Do Revenge, and for playing Margaret in The Staircase.
Boisie
Boisie is Joan’s literal partner in crime. He owns an antique store, which is essentially a front for him to run more criminal operations and make a buncha money stealing. Boisie and Joan also have a romantic relationship.
Frank Dillane
Frank Dillane, 33, plays the role of Boisie in Joan. FYI, one of Frank’s first roles was playing a teenage Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince. Since then, he’s become more well-known for appearing in Fear the Walking Dead, The Essex Serpent, and most recently Renegade Nell.
Nancy
Nancy is Joan’s older sister and runs a hair salon in London. She tries to be supportive of Joan and simply wants her to reunite with Kelly.
Kirsty J Curtis
Kirsty, 37, plays the role of Nancy. FYI, you’re most likely to know her from her role as Rosamund in Harlots. That! Said!!! She’s also recently appeared in a number of episodes of Eastenders, Rise of the Footsoldier: Vengeance, and on stage in the National Theatre’s production of Othello.
Albie
Albie is Boisie’s former prison cellmate and undertakes a lot of criminal trading and thieving while living in Spain with his wife and son. When he first meets Joan, he’s not a fan.
Gershwyn Eustache Jnr
Gershwyn, 40, plays Albie in the series. He’s been acting since the early 2010s and you’ll probably best know him for his roles in Britannia, Small Axe, and I May Destroy You.
Val
Val is Albie’s wife, and appears to not really understand what her husband does for business. Yiiiiiikes.
Laura Aikman
Laura, 38, plays Val in Joan and has previously played Smithie’s girlfriend in the 2019 Gavin and Stacey Christmas episode. She’s also starred in episodes of series such as Grace, Death in Paradise, Waterloo Road, and Casualty.
