Where to donate to support Asian American communities
Over the course of the coronavirus pandemic, hate crimes against the Asian American community have increased by 150 percent across the U.S., according to the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism. Data released by Stop AAPI Hate shows that 68 percent of hate incident reports made over the last year were by Asian women.
Within the first three months of 2021, the Asian American community has still been subjected to numerous racially motivated attacks and aggressions across the U.S. On the night of March 16, 2021, six Asian women were killed in a series of shootings at several spas in Atlanta, shaking the community to its core.
These unprovoked attacks are not an overnight issue, but the spike in anti-Asian hate can be blamed partly on recent rhetoric that has been ongoing since the beginning of the pandemic.
In The Know has compiled a list of organizations that are accepting donations to support Asian, South Asian and Pacific Islander communities. From legal aid to mental health assistance to community-specific needs, here are places you can support right now.
