What are Princess Mary's kids doing now?
As Prince Christian turns 18, find out what he and his royal siblings are up to these days.
When Australian Princess Mary married into the Danish Royal Family, the interest in what was going on in the small Scandinavian country changed forever for most Aussies.
Now she has four children with Crown Prince Frederik, Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.
Crown Prince Frederik, the eldest son of Her Majesty Queen Margrethe ll, will become King one day with Australian Mary becoming Queen of Denmark. And in turn, the eldest Christian will one day take over from his father as King of Denmark.
While that may be some time off yet, Christian is turning 18 this month and with that, he will start official duties himself.
But he and his siblings have been in the public eye since their birth and have been involved in official family events, such as the annual Royal Run in Copenhagen each year and are often photographed on holiday and for senior royal events.
So what will happen for Christian when he turns 18 and what are his siblings up to now?
Prince Christian
On Sunday, October 15, 2023, His Royal Highness Prince Christian turns 18. As he will be King one day, his birthday will be officially recognised and celebrated in Denmark.
On his birthday, Prince Christian will appear on Frederik VIII's Palace, Amalienborg's balcony at midday - just like both his father and grandmother did when they turned 18.
Prince Christian will have the Queen and his family by his side on the balcony where they will watch a change of guard at Amalienborg.
In the evening, the Queen will host a gala dinner at Christiansborg Castle, where they will host a selection of the country's youth organisations as well as young people who have marked themselves in the world of sports, art and culture – Prince Christian's contemporaries.
The night before Christian's birthday, Danish television will broadcast a documentary about Christian's life, interviewing the Prince for the programme, where he will share what he has learned so far about a number of institutions in Danish society, such as Parliament, the Supreme Court, the church and the defence forces, that he will serve as Prince, Crown Prince and finally King.
Finally at 9.30am on Tuesday, November 14, Prince Christian will be appointed a head of state which involves him swearing an oath to comply with the Danish constitution. Prince Christian will not get a seat in the State Council until a change of throne has taken place.
Princess Isabella
Known as Bella to her family, Her Royal Highness Princess Isabella, 16, has just started high school. High school in Denmark is in years 10 to 12 and is called Gymnasium.
While Princess Isabella attended primary school in central Copenhagen, not too far from the palace, after her 2023 summer holidays, she started high school at Øregård Gymnasium in Hellerup, an outer suburb of Copenhagen.
She's also seen as a rising fashionista, sometimes borrowing clothes from her mother's wardrobe for formal occasions.
People magazine reported that she wore a white blazer and matching trousers for her confirmation that Princess Mary had worn during a 2017 visit to Stockholm.
Princess Josephine
Her Royal Highness Princess Josephine, 12, has just started year six at Kildegård private school near Isabella's school in Hellerup.
In keeping with family fashion traditions, it seems that Princess Josephine raids older sister Bella's wardrobe as well, wearing one of her pink dresses to Isabella's confirmation.
Prince Vincent
While it was announced that his twin sister Josephine would change schools this year (the European academic year begins in late August) no announcement was made about His Royal Highness Prince Vincent, 12, so it is assumed he is staying at Tranegårdskolen in the Danish capital.
In this year's Royal Run, a charity fun run that Crown Prince Frederik started in 2018 and that the whole family takes part in, Prince Vincent decided to train for the 10-kilometre race through Copenhagen with his father, the pair sharing a cute reel on Insta showing their training and featuring A-Ha's Take On Me.
