Weekend Today and Nine programs suffer 'technical issues'

The Nine Network is reportedly investigating a potential cyber attack after a huge IT crash interrupted Sunday's live programming, including Weekend Today.

Technical issues brought the network down, meaning the channel was unable to go live with the breakfast program, with the hosts taking to Twitter to share what was happening.

"What's happening? Well not much right now! Tech issues at Channel 9 this morning," Richard Wilkins wrote.

He also shared an image of himself standing in front of an 'error' screen in studio, alongside co-host Rebecca Maddern and news presenter Jayne Azzopardi.

"We’re so sorry but we’ve had some technical issues this morning and not able to go on air. We’re standing by if things change," Rebecca updated her followers.

While Jayne wrote: "Three hosts... but no TV show! The technical gremlins have taken control of Weekend Today... we are standing by and hoping the engineers can bring us back."

The Sunday Footy Show was also not able go to air, with the channel instead airing prerecorded programs until at least 1pm.

Entertainment reporter Peter Ford said engineers were investigating if the issue was a cyber attack, while sources told TV Blackbox that the problems were nationwide and had hit programming across Australia.

A spokesperson for Nine said the network would be resuming programming soon.

“Nine is responding to technical issues affecting live broadcasting. At this stage we are working through the impacts across the network and will provide an update as we resolve the systems,” they said.

“NRL, 6pm News Bulletins and our evening schedule will proceed as normal.”
