Watch 'The Voice' Season 27 4-Chair Turn That Led Adam Levine to Use Emotional Blackmail to Get on His Team
The Voice returns tonight with a new panel of coaches – Adam Levine, John Legend, Michael Bublé and Kelsea Ballerini. But the one thing that stays the same is the goal to get four chairs to turn.
Ethan Eckenroad, who closes night one of Season 27, is one of the lucky few artists to make it happen with his stunning cover of Noah Kahan’s “Northern Attitude” and when he wraps up his performance, the battle between the coaches begins.

“Oh, my God. I've been waiting for you my friend,” Adam tells the folk singer from Running Springs, PA. “What you are doing is the hardest thing to do.
Adam is interrupted by Kelsea, who is putting on a pair of the boots she is gifting the artists who join her team, which Adam and John both agree is distracting.
“You have an effortless thing that you do that is so soulful and so simple,” Adam continues. “You have my favorite voice I've heard so far this entire Blind Audition. It would be a tragedy if you weren’t on my team.”
“He ended with emotional blackmail,” John says.
Michael interrupts, saying, “If you don't choose me…
“…I’m not going to be able to go on,” John finishes.

“It's my turn,” Kelsea breaks in. “These too can be yours. [She holds up her legs, showing Ethan the boots she’s gifting to her team.] I'm in a silly mood but to be very, very serious, this is the first time I felt like I was turning for an artist like ‘I'm at your show.’ I'm obviously the newest coach on this panel, but I love Noah. I have a song out with Noah right now. I'm a songwriter. I'm a country artist. I'm a fan of you.”
Then it’s Michael’s turn to make his pitch. He says, “Yo, Ethan. I love country I can even prove to you how much I love country because there's a picture that I have. [The picture is put on camera] I sported that mullet for most of my life.”
John says, “I told you he was related to Blake.”
Ethan demonstrates he can get in on the joke, saying, “I told my mom after the man bun I was going to do a mullet.”

Michael continues, “I'd love to have you on my team, Ethan, and I'm so proud of us because I think we know good music and you're good music.”
Finally, it’s John’s turn to try to win over Ethan. He says, “I'm so impressed by your poise, by the soulfulness of your voice. It was just a beautiful experience for us. I do not have a photo of me with a mullet I will grant you that. I don’t know if that’s the way I would try to convince you to join my team anyway. I may be at a disadvantage in this argument and sometimes I have to bring in reinforcements to solidify my arguments.”
So saying, John brings in a sign spinner who does flips holding a placard saying “Team Legend.”
After, John continues, “The message is clear. I would love to have you on my team.”
Then Michael puts the burning question to Ethan: Who are you going to choose to be your coach?
Ethan chose Adam, giving the OG coach, his second four-chair artist on his team.
