Watch: Meg Ryan & Billy Crystal Reunite at Katz’s Deli in Hellmann’s Super Bowl Ad
35 years later, and we’ll still have what she’s having.
It started with a tease. Last week, Hellmann’s posted a video of a waitress reading back a *very* specific sandwich order. When the waitress was done, a voice offscreen simply replied, “on the side.” If you had any questions about what the video was referring to, a few bars of the Harry Connick, Jr. version of “It Had to Be You,” at the end of the video made it clear. And rom-com fans across the world got a little excited.
At about the same time, Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal posted a photo on Instagram of the pair seated on a couch against a wallpapered background that’s eerily similar to the oh-so-recognizable set-up in “When Harry Met Sally.” The post caption reads, “It’s finally happening, we’re reuniting for something iconic. Can’t wait to show you all soon.”
Could it be? Were “When Harry Met Sally“ devotees about to get a glimpse into Harry and Sally’s lives 35 years after they married in the beloved Nora Ephron film? We’ve only been begging for it for decades.

While Hellmann’s mayonnaise may not be as beloved as the iconic rom-com, it has its fans. Julia Child was one of them. Stanley Tucci says he loves the brand. It’s the only store-bought mayo Martha Stewart will buy. In short, it’s pretty good stuff.
And it’s safe to say that Hellmann’s earned itself a slew of new fans over the past week. It did not do a disservice to those dying to know if Harry Burns and Sally Albright are still together 35 years after the movie’s premiere.
This week, the brand posted the 30-second TV spot that will air during this year’s Super Bowl, and it’s confirmed! The ultimate “will they, won’t they” couple is back at the table in Katz’s Deli in New York where the iconic “I’ll have what she’s having” scene happened. This time, rather than being picky about pie and ice cream, Sally is picky about her sandwich. It’s not exactly the way she likes it.
She grabs a bottle of Hellmann’s mayo, squeezes some on the bread, takes a bite, and...let’s just say history repeats itself. Harry’s response? “This one’s real.”
There’s even a surprise celebrity cameo to deliver the “I’ll have what she’s having” line. You can watch the spot here:
The 30-second cut of the commercial is fairly safe-for-work. The extended 60-second version? Perhaps not so much. But that longer version is a gift to devotees of the film who have been waiting to know how the fictional couple is faring.
“When Harry Met Sally” fans don’t need to watch the Super Bowl to find out who is the winner is this year. We are the winners. The Super Bowl happens every year, but we’ve been waiting 35 years to be reassured that Harry and Sally really do have a good shot at spending the rest of their lives together! Thank you Hellmann’s, for giving us a gift that will keep giving.
