Wait, Is Blake Shelton Really an Oklahoma Football Fan?

Blake Shelton is joining ESPN's College GameDay as the guest picker on September 21. The show is onsite for the highly anticipated matchup between the Oklahoma Sooners and Tennessee Volunteers. The matchup between ranked opponents is expected to be an exciting one, as the SEC officially welcomes the University of Oklahoma to its conference.

As college football fans know, GameDay always includes a celebrity guest picker, typically a high-profile fan of the home university. This season has brought Michael Phelps to the stage for the Michigan vs. Texas game and Dawn Staley joined when the show filmed at the University of South Carolina.

For the show's visit to Norman, Oklahoma, ESPN announced that the celebrity picker would be country music superstar Blake Shelton, a choice that has some football fans scratching their heads.

When the news was announced on Instagram, fans left messages like, "One of the more star studded athletic departments in the country and we get Blake Shelton?" Suggestions ran the gamut from Blake Griffin to Lana Del Rey. One commenter asked, "bruh is he even an OU fan?"

Here's what we know. The former coach of The Voice hails from Ada, Oklahoma, where he lived until he relocated to Nashville after college. He now lives with his wife Gwen Stefani and their family on a ranch near Tishomingo. Still, when asked about his football loyalties, his answer was vague.

When College GameDay cohost Pat McAfee announced the news on his ESPN show, he was asked if Blake is a fan of Oklahoma or Oklahoma State. He admitted, "I don't know if it's legal to be both or not, but I always have been. I always pull for all three of the teams— Tulsa too." Blake continued, "Of course, everybody said, 'You gotta do it. I said yeah, but I don't know s--t about all these teams he's gonna ask me about."

Still, he's happy to be involved. Blake told Pat, "You guys are desperate if you need me to come on and make the picks. I'm honored, though. Trust me, I'm honored to do it."

We'll have to wait and see how Blake does with his picks! College GameDay begins at 9 a.m. EST on ESPN.
