Virtual wine tastings you can do from home

We know some of you may have been reaching for the wine bottle already, but if you want to make things a little more interesting - and try something new this week - a virtual wine tasting might be right up your alley.

Wineries around the country have adapted amid the coronavirus pandemic and steered their cellar doors online.

More and more virtual tastings are popping up so wine lovers (and beer and cocktail connoisseurs) around the country can order sampling kits and learn about their favourite tipple at home.

Here we’ve rounded up some of the wineries offering awesome ‘at-home’ tasting experiences.

Jeff Aston of Tractorless Vineyard says the best thing about wine is how it brings people together. “I always love hosting tastings at our cellar door in Bowral. They’re a chance for people to try a selection of different wines, learn about how we’ve created them, and share their reactions.”

'Attendees’ will be able to ask questions to the makers and experts via the live online broadcast. The events will include a session on specific regions including Margaret River, Adelaide Hills and Yarra Valley, as well as a session on topics such as pinot noir, skin contact whites, alternative varieties and pet-nats.

Wine tastings don’t work without the ‘tasting’, so participants will be able to purchase the wines in advance. YGOW has partnered with Australia's leading fine wine retailer Langton's to curate a selection of mixed six-packs and mixed dozen wines, with two wines from the mixed packs featured in each of the topics at the events. These packs can be purchased here.
