‘The View's Sunny Hostin Sends a Bold Message About Michelle Obama Skipping Donald Trump’s Inauguration

Sunny Hostin is standing with Michelle Obama on this one.

While discussing the former first lady's decision to skip out on Donald Trump's inauguration next week, Hostin wasn't afraid to share her brutally honest opinion on the matter.

It was announced earlier this week that even though former President Barack Obama is confirmed be at Trump's inauguration ceremony, his wife will not be in attendance. An explanation for the decision was not provided.

During the Friday, Jan. 17 broadcast of The View, Hostin said she believes Michelle has "changed her tune" when it comes to taking the high road—especially in terms of dealing with Trump.

"I think when they go low you have to meet that energy and perhaps go even lower," Hostin, 56, argued. "Become small like an ant and go to the Earth's crust."

She went on to call it "perfectly appropriate" for Michelle to opt out of the occasion, especially after Trump already broke tradition in 2021 when he skipped Joe Biden's inauguration, becoming the first outgoing president not to attend the ceremony since Andrew Johnson in 1869.

Going on to further defend Michelle's position, Hostin said, "It's not about being childish. It's about normalizing a man who refuses to do the normal things that presidents do."

Michelle also didn't attend the memorial service for former President Jimmy Carter on Thursday, Jan. 9, during which her husband was seated next to Trump.

"TOTALLY AGREE," one user on Instagram wrote in support of Hostin's argument, adding, "Kudos to Michelle O for holding true to her beliefs. 👏👏👏❤️."

"She is an admirable woman and am glad she is standing by her convictions," another person echoed, while someone else added, "It's about DIGNITY, and Michelle has it in superlative terms."
