She moved to ICM’s Los Angeles office in 1980, following three years at J. Michael Bloom Ltd. in New York. During her time there, she represented stars including of Eddie Murphy, Keanu Reeves, Helen Mirren, Christopher Guest and Bill Paxton.

Ten years later, Gottlieb left the agency world to work in production and to be a mother, running Alec Baldwin’s El Dorado Pictures banner for several years, and then moving to Paramount with her husband, Walter Hill, to oversee development of projects for the writer-director.

She rejoined ICM in 2007, telling Variety at the time, “I’ve got one daughter in college and another applying, and I began to feel itchy, like I wanted to get back to doing something every day. I adored agenting, and discovering talent. It’s nice to come back.” She was named partner at the firm in 2013.

“Throughout her career, Hildy has been instrumental in cultivating the careers of remarkable artists. Her superb taste, relationships and passion served her clients and colleagues well,” said CAA Motion Picture Talent department co-heads Franklin Latt and Rachel Rusch in a joint statement. “We wish her all the best as she begins this next chapter.”
