Vegetarian mum's $600 demand after sitter feeds kids nuggets

A babysitter has left the internet aghast this week, after she revealed a harrowing tale of diet, deceit and $600 in damages on a recent babysitting job.

The woman in question took to Reddit to share her baffling tale, after she was kicked off a job for mistakenly feeding a couple of vegetarian kids chicken nuggets.

The 19-year-old was babysitting the two kids, nine and seven, for the first time when she decided to treat them to a special dinner as a reward for behaving so well.

"When I asked what they wanted to eat they asked for chicken nugget Happy Meals,” she wrote on the Reddit thread. “Since they were so well behaved I decided to buy them the Happy Meals they wanted.”

Little did she know that the naughty duo had neglected to mention that they were meat-free, something mum and dad had also skimmed over.

“The problem with that is they are vegetarian which their mom had not told me, if I was aware I would have not fed them meat,” the babysitter explained.

“I had babysat for vegetarians before and made sure to respect their vegetarian diet and didn't even eat meat while babysitting for the families.”

Mum’s furious reaction to nuggets

When the parents got home to see their kids chowing down on McDonald’s best chicken it seems the nugget hit the fan.

“The mom came home early and seen her children eating chicken nuggets,” she went on. “She literally ripped the nuggets out of their hands [and] started screaming that I'm horrible for allowing her children to eat dead corpses and yelling at her children for eating the meat."

In perhaps the wildest twist of all, the woman was kicked to the curb without being paid, only to be hit up with a demand to pay the family $600 in ‘emotional damages’ days later.

“She kicked me out without paying me and then later text me saying that I need to pay her $300 for each kid for the emotional damage I have caused them," the woman explained.

“The mom also threatened to ‘take me to court’ if [I] didn't pay $600 for ‘emotional damage.’”

The woman ultimately refused, pointing out that it was the mother’s own fault for not being clear about the kid’s diets, though she reportedly hit back that the babysitter ‘shouldn’t assume everyone eats meat’.

Heated debate over nugget-gate

The post kicked off a heated debate online, with most siding with the babysitter but some seeing the mum’s perspective.

“While the mom shouldn’t have freaked out or not paid, I can understand not expecting the babysitter to get fast food for the kids without permission,” one person responded. “If all of the food in the house is vegetarian then I feel like it’s not that unreasonable to assume that the kids’ only option is vegetarian food while she is away.”

Others disagreed saying the mum was responsible for communicating the boundaries.

“Obviously the kids already had eaten chicken nuggets at least once, otherwise they wouldn't have asked for them,” one observer pointed out. ‘Which makes the "emotional damage" claim even more ridiculous.”

“I'm a mom and I've never left my kids with anyone without some discussion of what my kid will and won't eat,” an expert weighed in. “If the kids are vegetarian you say so.”

Who knew a simple nugget could start a war?
