After almost three years of putting our passports away, travel is back.

To celebrate in style, Tripadvisor has released a list of the world's best hotels.

The 2022 Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Awards are based on the quality and quantity of traveller reviews and ratings.

Their list of the world's best hotels includes something for everyone - wherever you're travelling and whatever your budget.

Best hotel in Australia: Mount Lofty House, Adelaide Hills

This stunning hotel is in the Adelaide Hills Wine Region, and sits at the top of a 30-acre estate.

It was built in 1852, but now boasts the esteemed fine diner Hardy's Verandah Restaurant, as well as a day spa, and modern bedrooms.

If you want luxury, this is it.

Runner ups in the category include Treasury on Collins in Melbourne, and Dubbo's cool Orana Motel.

Best hotel in the South Pacific: Runner Up: Castaway Island, Fiji

Mount Lofty House took out the top spot in this category too, but was closely followed by the luxury Fijian Island, Castaway.

It's Fiji's most popular island resort for a reason; its 174 acres are covered with lush tropical vegetation and are surrounded by white sand beaches and vibrant coral reefs.

Best B&B: The Toulson Court, Scarborough, UK

Guests can't get enough of the stylish rooms and warm, welcoming hosts at this quintessential bed and breakfast in the north of England.

The Sunshine Coast's Blue Summit Cottages also made the shortlist.

Best hotel on the Water: Ikos Aria, Kefalos, Greece

Immaculate rooms that step out on a wide sandy beach?

Yes please.

This beautiful hotel is a once in a lifetime trip - you can roll out of bed in to crystal clear seas, and eat some of the best food around Greece.

Best boutique hotel: White House Hotel, Istanbul, Turkey

Good things come in small packages, and White House Hotel is proof.

Located in central Istanbul and within walking distance of sights such as the Blue Mosque and the Spice Bazaar, the rooms are traditionally Turkish.

There's a great rooftop terrace, and excellent breakfast options too.

An Aussie small hotel made the list too; The Falls Montville on the Sunshine Coast is made up of secluded Rainforest Spa Cottages and a six-bedroom manor house.

Think bubbling spas, roaring log fires and hearty country breakfasts.

Best family-friendly hotel: Alpino Baby Family Hotel, Andalo, Italy

Italians are known for their family-friendly approach to everything, and this hotel is no exception.

There are several huge play areas, a special children's menu, several kids clubs, and staff that love being around little ones.

It's in the middle of the mountains, so is great for skiing in winter, or walking and exploring in summer.

Cocos Beach Bungalows in Broome, Western Australia also got a mention for their luxurious bungalows that are great for family fun.

Most Romantic Hotels: Hotel Valle D’Incanto, Gramado, Brazil

A favourite for weddings, honeymoons and anniversaries, this gorgeous hotel oozes charm.

The staff are discreet but attentive, giving it the tag of one of the most exclusive hotels around.
