Video transcript

- Get ready with me to test the best.

CAITIE BROWNE: This is the weirdest thing we have ever tested.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Cleo, the facial steamer's free.

[MUSIC PLAYING]

CAITIE BROWNE: If there's something I see all over my TikTok feed all the time, it's Amazon beauty products.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Amazon everything.

CAITIE BROWNE: Amazon everything, yeah.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: It's like this facial steamer also polishes your is and will clean your whole house. And I'm like, slay.

CAITIE BROWNE: And then it will be like, it can be delivered tonight. And I'll be like, OK.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Yeah.

CAITIE BROWNE: So today, we've got five items that we've seen everywhere, and we want to know if they really work because I think that's the main thing is Amazon sometimes can be a bit hit and miss with--

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Be gimmicky.

CAITIE BROWNE: --yeah, what you get. So I want to know if some of these really work. I mean, one of them is just a headband, so come on. Hey, Alexa.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Hey, Caitie.

Let's test the best.

CAITIE BROWNE: Get it? Because Amazon Alexa.

We're going to start with probably the most popular TikTok beauty Amazon product--

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Whoa.

CAITIE BROWNE: --a headband.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: You could not have scrolled TikTok without seeing someone be like, get ready with me for my friend's-- oh, that's morbid. I was gonna say funeral.

CAITIE BROWNE: I was gonna say funeral.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: If you see this headband, you know that drama is about to go down. But this one's cool, because it comes with something that I hadn't seen much of, which is like little, like, sweatbands basically. But they catch the water when you wash your face.

CAITIE BROWNE: First impressions-- I actually thought it would be more of a towel-y material.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: It's like very synthetic feeling.

CAITIE BROWNE: Yes.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Ooh. OK. These are towel-y though.

CAITIE BROWNE: A very soft towel.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Very. Ooh. Get ready with me to test the best.

CAITIE BROWNE: I don't know how this actually works when it comes to, like, water because I hate water dripping down--

ALEXA TUBERTINI: So true.

CAITIE BROWNE: --my face and dripping down onto my hands. So I think this is actually a really fun idea. Overall, I think the headband was super cute and quite practical. The little sweatband things were my favorite because they did stop the water from getting on my wrists and my arms, which I hate.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: In terms of using the headband for skincare, I would say it didn't work out as well for me, but I really loved it for putting on my makeup. But the wristbands worked really well because my wrists were completely dry after putting on my cleanser.

I love an eye mask. I do.

CAITIE BROWNE: I've never done one.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: What?

CAITIE BROWNE: Well, you can tell.

[LAUGHTER]

ALEXA TUBERTINI: It says it's for dark circles and puffiness, which is great. And they're gold, and I always see gold eye masks.

CAITIE BROWNE: Yeah, they're always like the "Riverdale" cast is wearing them.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: For eye masks, when I do use them, I use them first thing in the morning.

CAITIE BROWNE: Yeah.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: So if they're nice and cold, then it really feels like it wakes you up. Kind of like the ice roller from last week. We should do an ASMR testing.

CAITIE BROWNE: Yeah, put the mics on it, and I'll open it up.

[RIPPING]

Ooh. That is a lot of serum. So it comes out in a little tray. Bye, guys.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Turn it around. Turn it around.

CAITIE BROWNE: [GASPS] There's serum on the table.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: The table will look young. Oh. It's Caitie's first time. You can't blame her.

CAITIE BROWNE: I accidentally left them in there. You know what it feels like?

ALEXA TUBERTINI: That's the good stuff.

CAITIE BROWNE: A deflated balloon. I'm excited to try--

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Oh, my god. It's on the loose.

CAITIE BROWNE: I'm excited to try this later.

We're getting ready for the Logies, and our colleague, Lachlan, wanted to join in with our eye masks. We may have been actually too tired for this to work. It did feel really cooling and relaxing once it was on our eyes, but I didn't necessarily see a change afterwards.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: I use eye masks fairly regularly, and I felt like this gave me no sort of like lift or awake-looking feeling after we used them. But it might be something that you need to use more often than just once to see a result. I'm not sure.

CAITIE BROWNE: That's true.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: So another popular thing on TikTok at the moment is heatless curls, which I'm all about. I'm going through a bit of a curly era. But I feel like I just see people using, like, socks and t-shirts.

CAITIE BROWNE: Mhm.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: It's, like, escalated. It actually says TikTok heatless curls on the barcode. Meta. Let's pull it out.

CAITIE BROWNE: So we've got two scrunchies. We've got--

ALEXA TUBERTINI: The device.

CAITIE BROWNE: --and a pink claw clip, which I think is super cute. I love all the colors. Scrunchies aren't super good quality. Although I don't think I expected that.

Wait. Hang on. Is this right?

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Yeah, I think you do that, and then you tie it around at the end with the scrunchie.

CAITIE BROWNE: All right. I'm going to try this out for real at the Logies. When I put this hair curler in, yes, it did produce curls. But I'm actually not sure if my hair was too wet or not wet enough because they didn't really last very long. And I do have to mention that the sleep was quite uncomfortable. I ended up taking the clip out about halfway through the night, and then I was just sleeping with the foamy bit. But then it started falling out of my hair. So I feel like I'd need to get a little bit better at the technique to make this work, but it did produce curls. So it did do what it said.

This is the weirdest thing we have ever tested, and yet it's so mundane.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: What actually is this called?

CAITIE BROWNE: An eyelash comb.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: OK I've, honestly, never heard of this before.

CAITIE BROWNE: I used to use my eyebrow, like, little brush to brush through my eyelashes for mascara.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Oh.

CAITIE BROWNE: So I think this is what that does. Oh, that's actually sharper than I was expecting. It looks like a nit comb.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Yes, it does. It looks like a nit comb, 100%. I like how everything's pink though.

CAITIE BROWNE: Yeah.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Kind of a slay.

Oh, don't use without a mirror. You're missing your eyelashes completely anyway.

CAITIE BROWNE: And I'm sure my eyelashes--

ALEXA TUBERTINI: You're missing them.

CAITIE BROWNE: It's like that Millie Bobby Brown, where she's like, mhm. This comes with no instructions.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: That's a worry. So you think we need to put mascara in first and then comb it while the mascara is not yet dry?

CAITIE BROWNE: Yeah, because I think then you're taking out like the little clumps of mascara. There's not really much more to say about this.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: No, let's-- I think we just have to put it into practice.

CAITIE BROWNE: All right. OK. So I think this worked. So I used it before putting on my mascara and after the mascara was on. And it was much easier to use once the mascara was there. I could see that clumps of mascara were coming off onto the-- like the little fork bit on the device. So I'm pretty sure it worked.

But also, remember that there were no instructions, so I actually can't be sure that I used it correctly. However, I did see that my eyelashes were being separated more than if I hadn't used it. So I would say successful.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: H2O.

CAITIE BROWNE: Just add water.

Cleo, the facial steamer.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Cleo, the facial steamer's free.

OK. So the next thing we're going to test is this facial steamer. I've never used a facial steamer before.

CAITIE BROWNE: Me either.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Although sometimes when I open the dishwasher after it's finished a cycle--

CAITIE BROWNE: Honestly.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: I'm assuming it's the same thing.

CAITIE BROWNE: I'm boiling some rice, and I'm like woo.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Literally. I always think that because I'm always like, oh, surely this is doing wonderful things for my pores. Right?

CAITIE BROWNE: Let's open her up.

Way bigger than I was expecting.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Well, it does have to fit your whole face in it. It kind of looks like a COVID mask.

CAITIE BROWNE: All right.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Oh, there's so many bits. Well, I'm really looking forward to trying this because I love these kind of random beauty electronics.

The one thing I'm not sure about is on the box it does have essential oils on the front.

CAITIE BROWNE: But it doesn't come with any?

ALEXA TUBERTINI: It doesn't come with any. It promotes face blood circulatio-- no N.

CAITIE BROWNE: No.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: No N. It's not actually a lot of water that goes in there.

CAITIE BROWNE: You pour it in, and then we just add some essential oils or maybe you can just use water.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: I feel like we could just test it with water. The thing with the essential oils is if we aren't sure which essential oils should be putting directly into our pores--

CAITIE BROWNE: Yeah.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: --maybe it should be none.

CAITIE BROWNE: We're here, like, vegetable oil.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Literally. Well, that's not an essential oil. Put the nose in.

CAITIE BROWNE: So where does your mouth go?

ALEXA TUBERTINI: It's not comfortable with the nose thing.

CAITIE BROWNE: I'm excited to see how this works.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: So the steamer was really easy to set up. It comes with a little cup that you can add water to it. It only takes a few minutes to heat up. And honestly, it was really easy to use. I was really sick this day, so it really helped clear my sinuses, and it felt amazing.

I would be more interested to see how this goes over a longer term use because I read that it's really good for clearing up your skin. I guess I'll have to keep you guys posted.

CAITIE BROWNE: So it's two weeks later.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: So very much has happened. So much, in fact, that we had to rewatch what we filmed to remember exactly what had happened. We went to the Logies--

CAITIE BROWNE: Yes.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: --which was so exciting.

CAITIE BROWNE: And then I got sick, and then Alexa got sick.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Yeah.

CAITIE BROWNE: The reason I bring this up is because we used a lot of the products on our get ready with us Logies' vibes.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Yes. It was perfect timing, honestly, because we had all these beauty products.

OK. So let's talk about our favorite products.

CAITIE BROWNE: I think this one's going to come as a shock because it came as a shock to me.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: OK.

CAITIE BROWNE: The headband. At the beginning, I was like, why would you get just a headband? I just think it's so cute. I'm like, does it go with my outfit right now? Yeah.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: I think it does. It matches almost perfectly.

CAITIE BROWNE: Plus I think these were actually the winner because we both hate the water dripping down our hands.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Yeah.

CAITIE BROWNE: So this is better.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: Yeah, that's cool and also something I feel like you wouldn't think to get. But because this was like a 2 in 1--

CAITIE BROWNE: Yeah.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: --it's a great value.

CAITIE BROWNE: Very unexpected. I didn't think I'd be picking this.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: I didn't think you would either.

CAITIE BROWNE: No.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: It looks cute though.

CAITIE BROWNE: Thanks.

This one was a shock.

ALEXA TUBERTINI: This was such a shock, but mine was the steamer. So let me talk you through. Let me talk you through. So the week after the Logies, we were so sick, both of us. And this is where it actually came into play because I could steam my face, and it actually helped clear my sinuses. And it actually really, really helped.

And I did a little bit of research on it. And it actually turns out that it's a more longer term use product. So I think I'm actually going to go and test it over, like, the course of a month. It's supposed to help clear your skin for like breakouts and stuff. So that's what I'm going to use it for. But in the moment, when I was all clogged up, it was like heaven.

The only thing I will say is with the nose attachment--

CAITIE BROWNE: The nose is a no-go

ALEXA TUBERTINI: --it was not good. It kind of like almost made the steam too close to my skin. It was like a little burny energy. And you don't want that. It does say in the instructions to, like, not be too close, obviously, because it's, like, hot steam. But otherwise, I really liked it.

CAITIE BROWNE: Thanks for watching "Testing the Best."

ALEXA TUBERTINI: We'll see you next time.

Bye.
