I Tried the Viral Dubai Strawberry Cup That Broke the Internet, and It’s Just as Delicious as Everyone Says

Fruit and chocolate is the best dessert pairing. There, I said it! Fullstop, there is nothing simpler and tastier than pouring warm chocolate over fresh strawberries, raspberries, bananas or even apples. That explains why the chocolate-fruit combination goes super viral online. Just take a stroll down the memory lane of recent internet trends: the chocolate strawberry yogurt clusters, outdoor melted chocolate hack or the chocolate covered strawberries sold at Borough Market in London, England.

This time, the world wide web is hyper-fixated on Dubai chocolate strawberries. This viral recipe offers a low-fuss treat that you can make at home using only six ingredients. After little to no convincing, I hopped on the dessert bandwagon and whipped up a cup for myself.

What is the Viral Dubai Strawberry Cup?

Do you remember circa early 2024, when the Dubai chocolate bar was dubbed the top-tier sweet by TikTok? Well, this strawberry recipe is inspired by that milk chocolate bar, which is famously blended with pistachio cream, tahini paste, and kataifi dough. The bar was created by chocolatier Sarah Hamouda in Dubai, after founding her specialty chocolate bar company, the Fix Dessert Chocolatier, in 2021.

Ingredients for the Viral Dubai Strawberry Cup

The viral Dubai strawberry cup consists of fresh strawberries, kataifi (shredded filo pastry, also known as phyllo dough), salted butter, pistachio cream, heavy cream and milk chocolate.

Many different recipes circulate online for Dubai strawberries but naturally, I opted for Tini Younger’s version because everything she makes is utterly delicious.

Where to Buy Kataifi and Pistachio Cream

I visited my local Middle Eastern grocery store to obtain the kataifi and pistachio cream (which the owner recommended I buy for this specific recipe and is more affordable than pistachio nut butter). You can substitute the pistachio cream for pistachio nut butter available at Walmart, or make the cream entirely from scratch with blended pistachios and a multitude of other ingredients like Tini did.

How I Made the Viral Dubai Strawberry Cup

This recipe is simple to make: first, toast shredded phyllo dough in butter for a few minutes and combine with pistachio cream (which you'll need to mash well if it’s too firm). In a separate bowl, combine milk chocolate and dark chocolate chips, then pour boiling heavy cream over it to create ganache, whisking until smooth.

Now, assemble the cup. Layer pistachio-phyllo mixture, chocolate ganache and fresh strawberries in a mason jar or glass cup, repeating the layers until the cup is filled to the top with absolute perfection.

My Final Thoughts on the Viral Dubai Strawberry Cup

My late night sweet tooth was very happy with this snack. The pistachio cream offers a sweet, lightly salted nutty flavor, while the dough adds a crunch that is extremely satisfying. This recipe is a surefire way to achieve an easy, upgraded version of chocolate covered strawberries, especially combined with the elegance that a chocolate ganache brings.

The decadent Dubai strawberry cup takes the timeless pairing of fresh fruit and luxurious chocolate and make it a million times better, which I didn't think was possible. The internet is riddled with nonsense. In the case of the viral Dubai strawberry cups though, the internet was onto something.
