Travis Kelce Reveals His Future With the Kansas City Chiefs

Travis Kelce has decided he still has at least one year left in him.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, who has recently become the subject of retirement speculation, has confirmed that he'll return for another go on the field this upcoming season, marking his 13th year in the league—and bringing him equal to the impressive length of time brother Jason Kelce spent playing before retiring from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Kelce announced his decision via the latest episode of Pat McAfee's self-titled ESPN show, telling the host that he can't let the Chiefs' abominable Super Bowl performance this year be his last in a text message read out loud on the live episode.

“I’m coming back, for sure," he said on Thursday, Feb. 27, detailing his efforts this offseason to "get to the best shape I’ve been...and get back to the mountaintop."

"Got a real bad taste in my mouth with how I played in that last game and how I got the guys ready for battle," he explained. "I can’t go out like that!”

The athlete seemed to hint toward retirement leading into the big game, where he and the Chiefs failed to cinch their highly coveted consecutive "3-peat."

While discussing Tony Gonzalez's previously held record for the fastest tight end in NFL history to reach 12,000 career receiving yards, with Kelce surpassing Gonzalez's 210 games with 172 games, the Kansas City legend admitted, "That's almost 40 more games? I don't know if I can play 40 more."

It's worth noting that 40 more games would amount to approximately two more seasons, which would surpass Kelce's current contract with the NFL team.

In April 2024, shortly after his second consecutive Super Bowl win with the team, the athlete signed a new two-year extension contract with the team.

While Kelce confirmed he's coming back for another season, he has not confirmed whether it will be his last.
